I am "considering" selling my van temple/producers miller hamer...

3x3 headstock...serial number predates rick nielsens and this guitar is in unplayed condition, ohsc.... truss cover has his name on it...

van hated the butterfly design .

I teched van in '85 ,so I know this guitar well..... it took 18 years to get it from him,

but.......truth be told as much as I love the producers, the thrill of chasing it, out weighed finally owning it.

I have lots of documentation on this piece, pics of van holding the guitar, the control cover is autographed by van.....letter from van stating it was his and what tour it was lack of used on....even have the answering machine tape message when van offered it to me.....

I am open to "realistic" offers.. if she goes so be it.

if not ,I am gonna glass case it with my other producers memorbilia and be done with it....

no trade offers please, unless you have an interesting "ultra low" serialized san dimas built jackson or charvel strathead....

[the auto'd picture of the producers will not be included]

heres the link....

Very Interesting. I saw them in '83 in a small club in OC Md.. Great show, nobody there except me and a couple of crickets. In addition to the first 2 records, they were playing some new material which cranked. This was not the material that made it on to RFYL. This stuff rocked! I talked to Bryan after the show, and he told me they were shopping for a deal, but no luck at the time.

I seem to recall 2 radio commercials they did for Miller. I believe one utilized "Chinatown", and the other was a song that was never realeased. If you ever talk to Van, ask him if he has any recorded material post the Portrait releases, yet before RFYL. That was a good period for them, and I'd dig buying a copy, etc.

BTW: I ran into a guy in the bathroom, and I said "You're Microwave!" He busted out laughing.. it was the same guy that used to tech for the Dregs. Recognized him from his pic on some of the Dregs records. He was teching for the Producers on that tour.

We used to catch the Producers when they'd roll through town in Winston-Salem. They always put on a great show and rocked the place. That was probably 85-87 though. Van had a black LP Custom at that time. That's when they had the new bass player who went on to play with someone bigger (and a bit surprising to me), but I forget who. Cool guitar fo' sho.

from what I understand.... RFYL was to be re-released on one-way records prior to the most recent effort and there was a huge interest in it publicly at that time...

but none of the guys can seem to find the masters....

it was originally released by justin entertainment and had limited distribution...

I have the orignal tape and album...

fought tooth and nail with a guy on ebay 3 years ago for a sealed copy of the RFYL album that I could burn a disc from,

it went to $83 and I stopped bidding...later on,

he made me a nice bootleg disc along with beautiful jewel sleeves from the original album for $17..... I thought that was very nice of him to do... I'd love another copy , but he's MIA....

I am very sure nothing else exists, they cant find the run masters and the coelacanth masters were lost then mysteriously found..

there is little continuity to this new album so I dont believe for a minute in its current form it ever wouldve been released back in the day...

slow dancing from RFYL shows up in different form on coelacanth...

its obvious an odd ball complete out take version recorded poorly..

if youre wanting vintage producers get coel, most of it has that first album simple feel ..some of it an extension of the run effort

"renaissance "which is a kyle tune , didnt make you make the heat.

"primitive man" is by far and away the best producers song since she sheila, whats he got ,or

who do you think you are.....

had coela... been released in '88 when intended ,that song wouldve put them back on the charts...

mismanagement and bad band decisions.....kyle leaving didnt help... tim did a great job filling the spot and wrote some great stuff with the guys......

for the last few years theyve spent summers in wisconsin playing very small shows.

go figure we're the last to embrace and the last to let go of things here...

kyle had a falling out with current management last summer so no producers for the past year.. no word, no bookings no nothing....

kyles in florida fronting his band so hes got an income.. no press to do producers shows.....

I think the other guys arent faring as well...I havent talked to van since november, and wayne since august.

A live dvd is supposed to be realesed but this has been in the works for 2 years.

one-way recently deleted the 2 album compilation , producers/you make the heat double cd...

I've seen it selling for $35-50 on ebay.....

wish they could get it together....we all get too old eventually

plus wives and kids, houses and the trappings of everyday life are the death of most musical careers or the rekindling of one.

Thanks for the info on the band. Bryan did a stint with Kansas. May still be with them for all I know. Ask Van if he remembers a song they did called "All Of My Life", or something like that..... 22 years after hearing it live, then never again, I still remember the chorus... that is how good it was.

I never could get into the RFYL album... When it first came out I was anticipating hearing the stuff they played live when I saw them. Kyle had left the band, and those songs must have been left behind. I do have coeal... but it really does nothing for me.

I've got the One Way double CD issue... bought it new for $9. Better look around if it is now selling for up to $50.

steve, aaah the black les paul... that thing dwarfed van ! very heavy as well.

during the run tour van used the black les paul and his trademark blonde tele...he pulled the hamer out for one song a night to do his comitted miller spot....

he hated miller beer...eventually he just mentioned miller and didnt play the guitar :P ...

at the end of that tour I have to believe he was holding up cups of bud when mentioning miller cause there was alot of bud backstage..

I tried to convert him , but he is a southern bud drinker...

I think the paul is gone...

every show he's done here in the last couple years has been done with rental fender teles and dual jcm 2000's half stacks.....

Who is Sheryl Crow?

I remember seeing Van play Hard Days Night encores with that Hamer. Sorry the honeymoon is over.

Hijack:

Last year while strolling thru the pawn shops, I spotted an Oberheim xl controller/keyboard in rough shape with strap buttons attached!?! There's only one cat I've ever seen wear his Oberheim like that. It had to be Wayne's, but how the hell would it end up on Charlotte's west side?

Wasn't Sheryl Crow I was thinking about. Who did Tim go on to play with after the Producers? I gotta Google this-it'll make me N.V.T.S.!

They were drinking Bud whenever we saw 'em. In fact, in about 1/2 of the pics from those shows either Van or Tim have Buds in their hands.

JELLYFISH. OK, now I can go back to whatever the hell I was doing...

Okay - I go away for a few hours and miss the clutch trivia question of the day!

Tim Smith did indeed go on to semi-greatness/relative obscurity again with Jellyfish, another one of my faves. Tim slung a bright red Ibanez roadstar 4 string whenever we saw him, and Van split between the black LP Custom, a sunburst Strat (not sure if it was a '57 RI or the real deal) and a blonde Tele. For some reason, I think it was a 70's Tele with a black guard. Hell, like it matters!

Tim was cool enough to party with a bunch of us later on on one occasion, and I think at the time he was still in "hired gun" mode rather than a fully-absorbed member.

Whille we are on the subject of guitars used by Van, when I saw them in '83 he was using a dark sunburst Ibanez studio. I actually tracked down an identical one, and it now resides with a family member.

tim was very young when he joined the producers wasnt he only like 18 ? he was a fish out of water on the run tour for sure....

saxon, I think van used that ibanez in '82 when I saw him in milwaukee at summerfest on the y.m.t.h. tour...

what became of jellyfish.. I know they had some popular songs, but dont they reside in the where are they now file ?

Jellyfish had some cool power pop stuff that critics loved, but they disappeared a few years back.
