Two are within 2ma of each other, as are the other two. The hwole quad is in within 4 ma of each other. Tubes are used but in great shape testing at well over 90%. I can sell the quad for $175 shipped, paypal ok. Email me if interested as I dont get back here to often. Tubes are posted on The Gear Page where I have over 500 posts.Carl
BigBob Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 http://kcanostubes.com/content/estore.asp Very reputable and knowledgable.
Jimbilly Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I don't think there's anything wrong with buying good used tubes. There seems to be a lot of good used stuff around.

There seems to be a lot of good used stuff around.Sure, there are some good 'used' tubes around, but you have no idea if they really are good or not. Hell, there are even some so-called NOS dealers that just pass them along without even testing them. I've been burned before. And at the prices these tubes have escalated to, you've got to be a little careful.Mike at KCA is one of the very best. As is Fat Willy out here in Denver. He's also known as Lord Valve. Besides being an expert on tubes and tests every tube rigerously before they ever go out, he's been repairing amps for a bazillion years. NBS (Lord valve)I invest on a few NOS tube sets each year and have a pretty good stock at home. Not a bad way to do it as you don't feel the pain as bad when you need to replace 'em.
straightblues Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 What I always do is buy used versions on Ebay for cheap. If I like the way they sound, then I seek NOS tubes of the same type (year, brand and configuration) through a good dealer. KCA is my favorite dealer.I often buy big lots of used tubes (pulls) on Ebay. Espcially preamp tubes. You can often get 20 preamp tube for $30 or $40. There aren't a lot of guys that want a large mixed lot of preamp tubes. Every time I get a new amp, I just start putting various tube in until I find the ones that sound the best to me. I think I have at least 50 of each of the 12AX7, 12AT7, and 12AU7 tubes. Almost all of them are old tubes with a few new ones mixed in. Sometimes the new stuff sounds good as well. It really depends on the amp.
