Where can one find out more about the Peters Wolverine? A google search yielded very little useful information.

It's a very aggressive high-gain amp, similar in a general sense to

amps like the 5150, Dual Rectifier, and Uberschall (although with its own

tone, of course).

The tone is a bit more like a very aggressive Marshall, sort of "if Marshall

made a modern high gain amp", I guess. That's to say it's a bit warmer, has

a bit smoother of a tone, and doesn't suffer from the "cold" aspect of some

other high gain amps. It also never gets saturated to the point of being

muddy. It's tight and chunky with lots of gain, and has lots of snarl and

growl. Turning down the gain control gets a pretty good classic rock tone

similar to a 20W Marshall (the PA amp commonly used nowadays as a guitar

amp, since it sounds really tight and chunky for an early Marshall).

The EQ is simple but very functional. Scooped "death metal" tones are easy

to get by classic treatment of the EQ (turn the mids down, lows and highs

up), fat lead sounds are on tap (turn the highs down and mids up), and for

the more "classic rock" tones with lower gain, it can have enough shimmer

and plexi-esque mids by keeping the highs on 7 and the mids on 4.

It takes three 12AX7 tubes (using 5 preamp stages), and one power tube. The

power tube can be an EL34, 6L6, KT66, or variants of those tubes (5881,

6CA7, etc.) It's self biasing so you don't need to bias the amp for any of

those tubes. Just turn the amp off, wait for the tube to cool, yank out the

tube, put a different one in, and turn it back on.

The lower volume tones are what the amp is primarily designed for, but it

also fares well at somewhat higher volumes too. The oversized output

transformer (larger than a lot of amps' 50W push-pull trannies) keeps the

sound smooth and full without saturating at higher volumes. You will get

power tube distortion, but you won't get saturation in the output

transformer (which can make an amp sound like it's "struggling", especially

with lots of bass).

It's 13.5" wide, 9" tall, and 9" deep, and weighs 25 lbs.

Yes, I am now on the hunt for a Roccaforte Custom or HG. I loved the Peters Wolverinr but I have to sell some stuff off to buy more, so whatever went, went!

I am surprised it took so long too. these are rare and killer little amps.
