Don't like the stock Duncans? This one doesn't have them. I never pulled the pickups out, but the prior owner said they are Gibson Historics.Price? That's a VERY cool color.I gave $500 for my '93 Special with the extra set of Virtual Vintage P90s. It isn't pristine by any stretch, but it actually looks pretty cool with the dings and dents. The best part is the neck isn't skinny and, with the original P90s, it sounds killer. Quality build, great sound, easy playing...where are you going to find that for $500 these days?

It's dinged to hell and back but it might just be the baddest special around. I was just looking for something stock since my red one has minibuckers in it now. I'll go see about Bluesking's.

Maybe the ones that are dinged to hell and back have something special (no pun intended) and that's how they get in that condition? I've thought of getting a wraparound and just throwing it on, without cleaning up the other pair of inserts. What kind of difference did it make on yours?
tomteriffic Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Well, it's not as easy as all that, since the bridge inserts need to be filled and the holes for the TP are bigger, more widely spaced, on a different angle relative to the rest of the guitar and therefore have to be moved ever so slightly.Mine's a Pigtail Music vintage wraptail on Tone Pros locking posts. The guitar is set up as a hypbrid slide/regular dealie with 12's and a slightly high-ish action. It's got a lot of extra zing in the upper mids and is basically punchy as hell. Notes seem to pop off of this thing extra fast and it's very, very responsive to nuances in your picking and playing style. This thing never sees the inside of a case, it's always out and getting picked up and plunked on. It's a natural match for something Blackface, tweedy or Vox-y, especially if it's begging for its life.Even though Platzer says intonation is for pussies, he set this one dead on the money. That is nice! I don't see too many black ones. Mine looks like that, but without the mods or the dings. IIRC Music Go Round wanted $450 with a total piece of junk case. I said "Keep your case!" and got it for $425. I found an old Les Paul case a few months later for $30. Of course this was 7 years ago.
