We like those but we like these better 'cause the gaudy tailpiece rules! I sure would like his switch ring though...

Have any of you guys ever owned one of these Iceman guitars? They have always intreged me but I have never owned one. What are they like tonally? Do they have the wide flat neck like my 1976 Ibanez Destroyer (Explorer) use to have?

The neck on mine (a'77) was a little rounder and less flat than the neck on my '75 Destroyer, but they were not worlds apart. The tones tended to be very bright and dare I say, "Fendery", with one position getting somewhat meaty and the rest staying bright and thinner. There was a version where the pickup assembly slid back and forth to vary the tone, the "SL" variant. These guitars were pretty cool but I found mine to be too bright and I didn't want to modify it so I sold it off. I expected more beef from that giant slab 'o Mahogany. Nice feel, great player, not enough chunk tone-wise. These also had an issue with the pickup mounting ring outgassing and corroding all the plated bits and electronics. I also prefer the Artist version with the wild tailpiece - reminds me of something Spock would play with his cover band in the bowling alley of the starship Enterprise. "Thanks folks, live long and prosper! Don't forget to tip your bartenders and waitresses."Z
