I bought this camcorder for a couple of reasons:First and foremost, this one has the best low-light capability available in a non-pro camcorder. Simply amazing in bars, etc. In any nightclub I've used it in, I've never felt the need to use the "Nightshot" capability (much less the "Super Nightshot") although the Nightshot is very good on this model (Super Nightshot will allow for shooting in almost total darkness. We used it to film our daughter sleeping when she was an infant). It also has a remote so you can set it up on a tripod and start recording without relying on someone else to do it.Secondly, it has a video pass-through mode that allows you to use the camcorder to process video from an external rca source though it to your computer. Very cool and works great. We've used it to convert all of our VCR tapes to DVDs.It has all the features that you'd expect in a modern camcorder: 4:3 or 16:9 recording, Stereo recording with 5.1 recording available with the hotshoe mic, Image Stabilization, Firewire and USB connectivity (USB also allows it to be used as a webcam), accessory hotshoe, touch screen, easy mode, a 3mp still camera, etc... Lots of grat reviews of this camcorder out there and for good reason. Oh yeah, the picture quality is simply beautiful, too. I've never used the Sony software, but instead use Nero that came with my DVD burner.
