weird 1981 hamer sunburst on german ebay

That's not a Sustainblock, it's a Schaller roller bridge.

The bass version is a really good bridge, but I've never seen a six string one before.

Cool looking Hamer. I likes it! Wish I could read German. Looks like it's going for around $600 US right now. Gonna bid on it C?

I might be tempted but I'm sure Dirk has already see it too. :)

I'll see how it goes...I asked the seller for more pics...

Right on. Probably a good advice. Thanks man!

I didn't really like the way the seller described the guitar. he sounded like he had no idea at all...

Okay, I gotta ask...

Pirate, what do you see about the guitar that tells you to steer clear of it? I think these are a bit of your specialty, so please enlighten me. No way am I bidding on it, but I'd sure like to know for future reference. Thanks,

Thanks for the nice words but I don't consider myself an expert. I would confer with a member or two myself if I was serious about this one.

That bridge will keep it from reselling easily should you change your mind about the guitar. Plus, I have no idea if it's original (maybe somebody else knows). The Hamer font looks wrong for that period although I suppose anything is possible. No Sunburst logo ..... weird? Non-original case. I don't mind the fading so much. It just depends on the guitar.

These babies come up for sale much closer to your home which is another plus.

I have word that one is hitting the market but it won't be cheap.

And thank you for the great lesson. A bit like when I owned a '58 VW bug, I could tell the year of any beetle within 100 yards of me instantly. You, sir, have that kind of eye for detail on many of these Hamer models. My eye, unfortunately, is "still-in-training" on Hamers. Good for me i don't pull my wallet more often than I do when confronted with a great looking Hamer, :)

Again, thanks for the lesson (and the tip!)

...to quote ZZ Top: "I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole".

The auction was closed. The guitar had been destroyed by the seller. :D:D:D

He sent me an e-mail saying he was pretty pissed off with people questioning the guitar.

Well..we all know by know how a 1981 sunburst SHOULD look like and if his doesn't he better find some words to explain...
