tomteriffic Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I know that Crate is pretty much universally reviled, and, in most cases, with good reason. This is an exception, though. What I'm trying to move is an original, first edition Vintage Club 50 watt head. This is the one that was designed by Obeid Khan, the current mastermind behind Reason Amps. 50 watts out of four EL-84's. Fendery cleans and some great, smooth OD when you wind the clean channel way up. Good medium-gain Marshally-Voxy tones out of the drive channel. FX loop, separate reverb controls for each channel. Built tough as hell and, of course, I took the big ol' Crate badge off of it. Good shape, it's not been gigged in at least 13 years, maybe more. $300 shipped to the lower 48, add for Paypal. I'll listen to reasonable offers but need the bux for other stuff, so I'm not all that keen on trades.
tomteriffic Posted October 27, 2008 Author Posted October 27, 2008 One gratuitous bump because it's a better amp than you think.
Jimbilly Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 The only thing they did wrong was leave the Crate name on it, if they'd given it a new name it would have been much better received, -good luck, great amp!
Thundernotes Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 The Vox-like sounds come from many similarities in the design borrowed from the old AC-30/50. Good amps.
lord nelson Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Played å gig with a VC 50 once. When my distortionpedal crapped out before soundcheck I just plugged in, dimed the gain and got a very decent heavy metal tone out of it. Great amp for the money
tomteriffic Posted November 1, 2008 Author Posted November 1, 2008 Sold locally to Arjay (his son, actually). Thanks guys! Good meet 'n' greet!
