Selling some guitars to raise money for the kids' college funds. The photos were taken with an old digital camera.

1992 Hamer P90s Special

This is the cherry red model, from the first year of production with a slim neck. The one that GP gushed over. It has been upgraded with Lindy Fralin pickups. It is in very nice shape. Here are the "issues" and it is hard to say just that because they are difficult to photograph and are hardly noticeable. They are: a slight double indent on the top bout under the right arm; two very small pencil-point-sized indents between the bridge and the edge, and one slightly larger one that I managed to photograph; and a small indent on the front top-edge of the headstock. These are minor issues. Also there is a small rough spot near the top of the bridge p/up rout. I cannot explain it. Drop of solder? I found the edge and headstock creases only yesterday after careful examination. They are outweighed by the positives: no buckle rash, none of those regrettable through-the-finish chips, clunks, etc. Frets are very good. The finish is very, very nice and really in great shape for a '92. I may regret selling this, because it would be hard to find a nicer one and it has better pickups. With okay Hamer case - - $650 money order, shipping included to lower 48.

1992 Special

1982 Checkerboard logo Special - - a beater

Somebody stripped this down and then sprayed it with a clear coat over the front and back of the body, back of the neck etc. and maybe the p/up rings. Cannot tell the year because the serial # was sanded off. If somebody wants to ID this by the pots, I will give you the codes and you can carbon date this for us. It came without a back plate but I got one from BCR Greg (you provide the screws), along with one new pot. Hamer case has one broken latch.

Now for the gory details. The p/ups may not be original; they are not zebras. The upper front under the right arm is marred. See the photo, which is pretty accurate. The back is funky, too, but not as bad as the bad part of the front. It almost looks like somebody took a sander to the headstock after inhaling something. (My kid restrung three strings backwards.) The frets are okay. There is some wear on the third fret on the G or B string.

The positives: There are no breaks or cracks. The flame is rather pretty. If you want a Hamer that you would not be afraid to swing around or leave out, this is it. If you are handy, you can set it up better than it is now. $408 money order (to cover what I have in it) and that includes shipping to the lower 48.

'80s Special - The Beater

2003 Custom Telecaster

According to the Certificate of Authenticity, this was "custom-designed for the NE USA Region in 2003." Story goes is that a dealer or dealers asked for this and 100 were ordered but maybe only 83 were made.

COA reads : "Specifications: solid ash body. Custom "vintage butterscotch" finish, 1 ply "vintage style" black pickguard, maple neck w/Custom Vintage tinted urethane finish. "Custom Telecaster" decal w/spaghetti logo, medium jumbo frets, staggered tuners, Custom Shop "Nocaster clean" pickups, Vintage black logo hardshell case w/orange poodle lining included." Has the hang tags, etc.

I bought this around 2004 from the original owner. It is near mint or like new. Has been under the bed for almost the whole time, except for time spent trying to bond with a Tele (my first), which never came to pass. I bought this because it was the best option between an Am Std and the Custom Classic.

The color is butterscotch. It is an opaque finish, i.e., you can see the grain through the finish. Photo 9 (backside with hand on the neck) is probably the best depiction of color and grain. The only issue is a rub on the handle to the case, which may have happened when it was shipped to me. Otherwise not a ding or chip.

If you are looking for a new Tele ($1000) with modern specs (radius, tuners, bridge, etc) but want the '52 look, along with custom pickups and the classic Fender black case, this is worth looking at. Asking $1,050.

2003 Custom Telecaster - like a modern '52

Thanks for the bump, Jeff.

The '82 has been acquired locally by an HFC-er of some reknown who has plans to revive her this winter. I traded her away plus cash for a Reverend Charger with 2 p90s.

The tele is still available. Like Ted's amberburst and Elduave's black satin Monaco III, it is a sad sign of the times that these choice axes are not moving or moving quickly.
