jerseydrew Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I have one of these pedals and they are fantastic. If you're on the fence, go for it.
Mike Lee Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 I got this one from Badger Dave earlier this year.I liked it so much I had Keeley custom build me a Baked TS-808 RI with true bypass.
sw686blue Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Mike,How does this sound for hard rock/metal?
KH Guitar Freak Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I have the Keeley TS9DX Flexi 4X2, which has both the Mod Plus and Baked Mod, via a mini toggle switch...The Baked Mod definitely has a lot of gain on tap, more so than many OD pedals, but clear at the same time. Works very well with single coils too, in contrast to some OD pedals that don't take single coils too well...
Mike Lee Posted November 21, 2008 Author Posted November 21, 2008 Mike,How does this sound for hard rock/metal?It sounds like a super high-gain Tubescreamer. Kind of like cascading two dimed TS-9's together. Tons of sustain and more attack with great pinch harmonics. But it still has that thick-mid TS sound, so it's not going to give you those chug-chug rhythm tones that are so popular now.Lead tones are cool. With a Strat it probably can get pretty close to Yngwie Malmsteen's tone if you like that. It might to a decent Randy Rhoads tone with an EQ after it too, and possibly some of the Van Halen tones.
kevinbower1959 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I have a TS9 which has been modded with a self-install 808 chip and diode kit bought off ebay. For metal, it absolutely sings.FWIW metal fans will doubtless know of Andy Sneap - arguably the world's #1 metal producer (Megadeth, Trivium, Killswitch Engage plus 100 others) - he's a great friend of mine and is currently producing my band's album. This pedal is his absolute go-to for the tone he's become famous for, it's been used on almost every guitar track he's recorded for years.
