DavidE Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 How does the Clubman 35 compare to the Lightning 15? The Lightning has become my favorite amp.
harryjmic Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 How does the Clubman 35 compare to the Lightning 15? The Lightning has become my favorite amp.The Clubman has more girth. Many say it's a combo of a Hiwatt with a Vox with a touch of Marshall. I have owned one for a year now and love it...it's my all time favorite amp, in fact I just bought a Spitfire where when I want to take a combo out. The Ef86 really makes this amp kick and the tone is steely but yet sweet, the mids aren't overly strong but are good. The low end is mind numbing...you need to be careful with the bass control as it adds a lot of beef. I use the brilliance controls like a high treble tone knob. What I will do (especially good with teles) is run the brilliance higher then the treble pot, what this does is dial out some of the high midrange a great tele can have a bit too much of. This ends up giving me the bite w/o the himidrange that might wear you out (think Vintage 30 speaker). I don't do this all the time but it's goo dto know it can be done.I'm hoping the Spitfire can be as useful for me as the Clubman has become. $1400 seems real reasonable also.

I've priced it to move one went for $1,589 + shipping on ebay and one was at $1,850 with roadcase on TGP + shipping recently.
