Yeahmann Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I got a diablo II (i think it was a '95) for my nephew for his H.S. graduation..not a perfect guitar but a great starter. It's missing the locking nut ..not the actual nut but the screws and clamps. unfortunately i dont have it here (its in wisconsin) and my nephew brought it in to Guitar Center i think in Roseville and they were clueless on how to "fix" it.MY RANT:Do Luthiers or even savy guitar techs exist anymore... or has that gone by the wayside like the economy? It seems like most guitar stores nowdays just want to sell u a new guitar and dont have a clue on how to service and set up or repair or even improve the playability of an existing guitar. Am i way off base on this?Does anyone know the measurements on the nut and quite possibly a spare.. i'll pay whatever + shipping + gratitude for getting my sister off my back about it since it's been a year since he graduated.Discussion on the Rant is welcome as is any suggestions..tyvm.

Capitol. That's all that matters to them. However, most towns have REAL guitar stores, owned by long time musicians, that genuinely care about music, instruments, playing, customers, service....They brought the guitar to one place to never take a guitar for "repairs". I suggest they find a small, locally owned shop.Locking nuts on Hamers are usually not as wide as an Ibanez or Jackson nut. That shouldn't matter with the pad and screw size though. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges,_tailp..._and_parts.html is where you'll find what you need. I also suggest your nephew study the Floyd set up guides at www.ibanezrules.com , www.audiozone.dk , and www.jemsite.com .
carfish7 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 If you are in the Roseville area I'm just up the road in Shoreview and would be MORE than happy to help you sort this out. I'm not trying to take biz away from any professionals here, but if you just need help getting the right parts and getting the guitar set up I'll be happy to help out.I'm at 612-703-3990. I may even have most of the parts on hand. And yes, GC has VERY little tech support available. Find a small local shop/luthier you trust and you never need to set foot in the Big Boxes again.Z
Don Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 You can order those parts from several sources. Stew Mac has them.http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Nuts,_saddles/...ocking_Nut.htmlhttp://www.stewmac.com/shop/Nuts,_saddles/...ocking_Nut.html
Jem Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 All the lock nuts used by Hamer were made by Schaller. There is no difference in the size of clamp or screw between any of the size range be it R2 through to R5 be it right or left handed. Get on line and search for Schaller - they'll be the right ones.
Yeahmann Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 once again i thank u all for the great advice.. i'm going to make the 300 mile trip for a figure skating event for my daughter in roseville in like 2 weeks so i'm gonna try to get ahold of carfish7.. but thanks to all for the advice and i'm gonna steer my nephew to the sites for parts and education on the floyd... TYVM to all who helpedi suppose i've revealed ONE of my weaknesses... which is that i never really did that much of my own personal adjustments on my guitars and have relied on others.. and was fortunate to have some skilled people to help out (of course that was 15 years ago..lol) so here i gripe about it when its probably me that should be the one to blame..lol.
Don Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 These guys have them too.http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/guitar_frnutblocks.htm
murkat Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 MY RANT: Do Luthiers or even savy guitar techs exist anymore... or has that gone by the wayside like the economy? I'm still around I have Floyd nut assemblies as well.
