Morris Davis Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Hi,I have a USA Hamer Vector Korina with gold hardware. The pickup switch that toggles neck/middle/bridge seems to have stopped working. Is there a particular replacement toggle switch I should order? Thanks in advance for your help.best,Morris
atquinn Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 I'd call Hamer directly and ask them to send you a replacement if I were you.-Austin
DaveH Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Hate to disagree, but screw that. They want freaking $35 for a gold replacement switch....Kim just quoted that to me the week before last for that same exact switch, for the same exact guitar. Go to Stewmac's website, they have a high quality gold version listed (it's ALL gold) for $15, and it has a very positive feel to it.
murkat Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 check the switch to see if it grounding out on something. That happens alot since it is a 90' angle switch, could be a bare wire grounding on it, shorting all else.if that is not the case, try this~clean the contact points. use some 1500 wet//dry sand paper, lightly sand, clean the contact points on the switch wafers.see if that works. Armitage Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Switchcraft SC-12013 3 way toggle is similar, but I can't find it in Gold, or with the long toggle.http://www.gpdusa.com/Switchcraft-Switchcr...way_Toggle.htmlIsn't it just the nut that's gold? Can't you reuse the one you have?P.S. are you sure you have a problem with the switch, the switchcraft stuff is pretty robust.
DaveH Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Yeah, the stock switch just has a gold nut. I bought a new one from Mojo and one from Stewmac, the one I got from Stewmac is a much nicer switch than the Mojo. Here's the one I was talking about:http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_p...gle_Switch.html
Moose Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Ythe one I got from Stewmac is a much nicer switch t+1Listen to Dave, he knows his shit. And I've used this switch in a guitar. It's absolutely top notch.
Morris Davis Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 Hi all,Thanks for these suggestions. I had a friend/tek open up the guitar and check for grounding issues etc. He also cleaned (?) with solvent the contact points on the switch (although we forgot the sandpaper) and cleanly resoldered the connections. The switch seems to work fine now. However I'm going to order the stewmac switch as a backup. Thanks for this tip and for all the help.Best,MorrisYthe one I got from Stewmac is a much nicer switch t+1Listen to Dave, he knows his shit. And I've used this switch in a guitar.
