Hi. My Fender Twin is showing problems in the second channel. I'd like to take it to a very good amp tech. Does anyone know of any in the NOVA area?

Yo Salem!

I am also in NOVA. The only game in town that I am aware of is Music Technology in Springfield, near Braddock Rd. I have an amp sitting there for repair. They are backlogged about 8 weeks. Apparently they do all GC's repairs, as well as authorized repair facility for major brands, etc.

If it's a point to point soldered amp, KCA NOS in (?) Chantilly. Otherwise, MT is the only one I know of in NoVa. In MD, there's one a block from Chucks, but can't remember the name.

Thanks for the replies. I have already called Music Technology. They told me 10 weeks. Out of the question. This is unbelievable. I'm getting a new amp soon. How am I going to get this thing biased?

There was an amp tech associated with Action Music in Arlington for awhile. I'm not sure if he's still there. I never used him, but if he met Matt Baker's (the owner) standard, I'm sure he's pretty good.

If you just worried about bias, get yerself a bias probe and a cheap digital voltmeter. I got a fancy Allesandro one a few years back, but one like this should do the job:

Ebay Auction Thingy

Can't in any way atest to the goodness or badness of that particular one, but between with one like it, will pay for itself in one or two trips to the tech.

The Action Music amp tech -used- to be Mike K of KCA NOS. Don't know if there was one in between his tenure and now tho.

Do some google search, you should come up with something.

Where in NoVA are you located? My first instinct would be to check with Matt at Action Music - if he doesn't still have a guy in house, he would be the guy I'd call in your area based on my experiences with him.

Thanks for the help, I am keeping up with this thread. BTW, Saxon, how did your friend like his amp from SDGvintage? I will check with Action Music to see if they can bias my new amp. A 10 minute bias job shouldn't be this difficult to obtain.

I'm also thinking about Deja Vu music, a place that specializes in home stereo tube amplifiers. They should have a tube guy on premises, don't you think?

Salem,

My friend that bought the SDG got a tweed Deluxe clone. I think he is impressed that the builder used fairly high grade components. He is a real fan of the tweed Fender tone, and during the honeymoon period, he speaks highly of the amp. That said, he goes through a lot of amps, so I am sure it is just a matter of time before this one will be for sale, LOL.

Thanks for the info, Saxon. I've gone over to the SDG website and the builder makes some well built tweed. It would be nice to head over and try a couple.

just to let you guys know.... I was having major problems with the distortion channel of my Mesa DC-5 head (ie- it doesn't work ;) ) Action Music took it, although they said they needed a $30 down payment to cover costs.... and they said the amp tech comes in next week.... so there you have it! Better than that 10 week wait to the GC in disguise or whatever that Music Tech. is?!?

Hmmm.. same buddy of mine that bought the SDG is pretty good friends with Matt, the owner of Action. I'll have to find out who he is using for amp repairs.
