Brownsound Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 I dont have the nerve or need to take my pickguard up but I was curious since it is so resonant. I was thinking there is big hollow space under there.
BCR Greg Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 Nope.Nerve? Grow some stones, boy, and rip it apart! change it out, make it YOURS.
cmatthes Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 I've got one right here (Well, it's MAHOGANY!). Nothing but the standard pickup routs, and the pot/switch cavity is only as big as it needs to be to accomodate the "guts". The hole under the jackplate is also only as big as it needs to be to accomodate the jack. All routing between cavities is done via aircraft bit "tunnel", rather than a hacked-out channel like on less well-executed designs. It's purty under there - pull off that guard!!Congrats on the nice axe, btw...
Brownsound Posted August 22, 2005 Author Posted August 22, 2005 Thanks...Not really scared but I just got it and everytime I touch it I want to play it. Still havent even polished it up!
BTMN Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 Funny you should mention this, I had the urge yesterday to look under the pickguard of my '97 Mahogany Standard. I would have left it off with just the screws in place but it was a few degrees lighter than the rest of the guitar. 8 years of aging looks good on it but this beautiful one piece Mahogany body would look great with nothing on it. I guess the only way to ever match it up again would be to refin or could it be buffed? I would dowel the screw holes if possible too. I love Hamers choice of wood pieces.
BCR Greg Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 Tape off the faded bits and leave it in the sun for a while.
