cmatthes Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 I'm going with my concert-buddy son, and the rest of the family and a couple of friends are now going to join us. Anybody else going? Saxon?Weather's supposed to be PERFECT...
seeker Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 I will be there with my older daughter, cashing in on my fathers day present Maybe will catch up with ya! Dave
princeofdarkness56 Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 I am not going to that show, but I am going to the show in Syracuse next week. The reviews for the shows have been great. Stick around until Alice's last encore as I hear his band is joined on stage by the members of Cheap Trick and they do some old rock and roll covers together to close it out. That should be worth the price of admission alone. Alice, Ryan Roxie, Damon Johnson with Rick Nielson and his boys. That's a lot of guitar. Post a review if you are up to it.
salem Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 I think this would be a great show, especially if Alice does it in full make up and regalia.
princeofdarkness56 Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 Yup, full makeup and props. Not that he needs it. The man simply refuses to go away and just keeps on slamming like a 25 year old. His new album is Dirty Diamonds and it really rocks. He is no oldies act either. His band is hot. Ryan Roxie is one of the best rock guitarist around. Flash and substance, no poser rock.
Turdus Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 Not me Chris. Mark had some tickets last week, then he didn't, then he did, and now I am not sure, LOL. I told him to contact you. Anyway not enuff time for me to get a sitter now.Have fun.
cmatthes Posted August 25, 2005 Author Posted August 25, 2005 It was a perfect night out there tonight. Saw Chris Isaak and his killer band from 11th row center. The seats I bought were way back in row QQ, last seats, but this venue cheerfully upgrades you if you ask on the day of the show. How nice!No Hamers, of course, but they did a very cool version of "I Want You To Want Me". Unbelievable how many hotties that man brings out to a show. Solid performance, and great all-around entertainer. Tomorrow night, more of the same weather with CT and Alice...Seeker - I'll email ya.
seeker Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 Heh Chris, were you in the pit up front?Great show, as always. My daughter had a blast, and want's to see them next time they come in town. Robin's vocals were a bit strained at times, which is very unusual for him. Musta had a cold, or the summer's been a busy one?
cmatthes Posted August 27, 2005 Author Posted August 27, 2005 Dave: We weren't in the pit, but did manage to get our tickets upgraded at the box office. Glad you guys had a good time - it was a great night. Agreed that Robin was straining a bit, and played it safe a couple times by going low where he usually goes high. He definitely backed waaaaay off the mic a few times on some screams. He did sport that SFG TLE12 and a Birdseye Newport 12 most of the night. We talked to Rick before the show and he had a bit of a dry cough the whole time that he attributed to allergies (he told my kid he was allergic to HIM). He did crack a bit on his higher background vocals, but altogether, the sound was great for an outdoor event from where we sat. Rick had his typical assortment of Hamers, but more the old standby assortment - the Checkerboard 5 neck instead of the newer Korina one; the "Dream Police" Checkerboard Standard instead of the pick checkerboard one. Tom asked my son about his HFC T-shirt and pointed out the 12 string bass and checkerboard headstock to Rick (who said he already has one of those shirts!). Pretty cool - he played Waterstones all night though... Alice C. was also great - Ryan Roxie would have been a GOD in the 70s!!
