wgarces Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Hi guys, Back in the late eighties (88?) I reluctanly sold a Standard that was custom made for me back in '81 to a store in N.Y.C. that is no longer in business and I'm curious as to how I may be able to locate it. I know this is a long shot but the guitar was so nice that I'm hoping it went to someone that appreciated it and didn't butcher it. It was white with a matching headstock, ala Pete Willis, and it had an ebony fretboard with dot inlays and black binding all around. It had a great soft D shaped slim neck almost like an old Les Paul Standard. It also had chrome hardware and I had John Suhr (when he worked at Rudy's) make a white pickguard that covered the entire back of the guitar because I used to wear a belt onstage. Serial number on the guitar is 0597 and I paid about $1100 for it at a shop called Stuyvesant Music, which is no longer there, either. I still have the warranty card and the other case stuff and the receipt. I feel like I'm trying to locate an old ex-girlfriend! Hey, I thought it was worth a try! Thank you! Oh, if I told you guys what I sold it for you guys would form a lynch mob and find me, which doesn't sound like a bad idea!

BTMN Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Welcome. Good luck in your search. Dont belive I've ever read anyone post about that one. That sounds like it is a fine example of one of those "cool ones still out there" guitars.
BCR Greg Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Well!Welcome to the family, fella. By any chance, did you purchase that guitar from Bob at Stuy's?
Nuclear Wessel Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Oh, if I told you guys what I sold it for you guys would form a lynch mob and find me, which doesn't sound like a bad idea! Don't feel bad. There are a lot of people who sold their Hamers dirt cheap in the 80's & 90's. A lot of savvy people here on the board capitalized on that! I know how that is about wanting to locate an ex-girlfriend! And as far as guitars, there are a few missed connection ads I'd wanna place: Me: Stupid, thought 6 guitars was enough. You: flame maple, excellent condition, rare, great looking, bottom feeder priced. Can we try it again?
Guest galejt Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 I know how that is about wanting to locate an ex-girlfriend! ummm Wendy. Greg, don't you dare tell Susan!
wgarces Posted August 30, 2005 Author Posted August 30, 2005 Thanks for the responses. You guys are too funny! Yeah, it feels just like having fond memories of a great ex-girlfriend that you foolishly broke up with because you thought the grass was greener elsewhere. Actually, this is worse! It would be terrible to hear that she's doing better than you! I owned that guitar for seven years and remarkably never broke a string onstage! Never even went out of tune and I played in a heavy metal band! And Greg, I did buy it from Bob. Did you know him? He also sold me two MINT Hiwatt cabs (the ones with the salt and pepper grille) with the original Fane speakers back in '80 for $600! I still have that receipt! I sold those, too! Do you know what those are worth nowadays? (Will someone put me out of my misery! Who's got Kevorkian's #!) And the guy I sold them to originally wanted a slant cab so he took a chainsaw to one of the cabs and threw the speakers away because they didn't give him the "EVH" sound! I have to go, I think I'm gonna throwww..........
