Lacquer question

I have a quick question regarding my Studio Custom Ltd. Redwood: is the lacquer on it nitrocellulose or not? I have a guitar stand that says that particles of it might wear off on nitrocellulose lacquer and I don't want to run that risk. If anyone could answer me, I'd be grateful .

I am pretty sure that the final lacquer layer is a catalyzed acetate. Hamer uses or has used nitro color and sealer coats but the final finish is usually poly, it's been that way for a while now.

Here is what our own Stike says about the Hamer finishes via the Gear Page:

No nitro at all. I toured the shop a couple years back and being the paint geek I am I asked their finish man loads of detailed questions. Somewhere around 1991-1992 they switched from nitrocellulose lacquer clear coats to the actetate based lacquer/Urelac/McFaddens Urethane Guitar Lacquer/whatever you wanna call it but they were still shooting the toners with lacquer. Not sure when but the lac. has been replaced with acrylic colors, PPG's DBU line IIRC.

Use a stand that is lined with foam not rubber or plastic. Obviously it is the solvents that leach out of the rubber or plastic that destroy guitar finishes. Something like paint thinner dissolves into the air over time with most synthetic rubber or plastic but I'm pretty sure that synthetic foam can be made without many of the solvents that give synth rubber it's elasticity.

This is one thing I always dislike about getting guitar stands: very often they are never clear on whether they will or will not react with nitro. usually the people at the guitar shops are clueless, and the manufacturers at most put "safe for all finishes" on the stand.

Someone out there has to have made a list of the type of rubber used on guitar stands, and which are truly SAFE.

I got tired of the little metal single stands. Rubber damage, falling over, ect.

So I bought a 5 guitar stand from Road Runner that is lined in carpet. Built like a guitar or peddal case, it's a bit of a pain to carry around. But I haven't damaged a guitar since I started using it.
