Chrysler 318 V-8

Question

A month or so back i picked up a 1981 Chrysler Imperial with a 318 and a 2 bbl carb. the car is in great shape but will only run for a minute or so then stalls out and wont restart for a couple minutes. after some inspection i came to the conclusion that its not getting fuel to the carb.

the fuel filter and fuel pump in the engine bay look to be pretty new, but the fuel filter lines seem to be at angles that kink the lines slightly.

there was a second fuel filter under the passenger side of the mid-section of the body of the car that i removed and it made the car run fine for a few days. but today i went to start it and it stalled out like before.

Any thoughts about what might be wrong?

side note: the car has always had a mis-fire to it and seeps out anti-freeze from an unknown location

That might be a lean burn computer problem

The fuel line with the kink, is it the metal line or the rubber hose at either end of the filter?

Posted

Step 1: take off intake manifold with carb attached

Step 2: Throw them away.

Step 3: Install new intake with 4bbl carb.

Done in 3 easy steps.

It's possible someone put some ethenol in it . That's not bad in itself however if the tank has some rust in it the ethenol will eat the rust away and clog the filter like crazy. Main option, new tank.

all 3 hoses connected to the fuel filter are rubber.

there is a spark control computer on the aircleaner (lean burn) but its a mess of wires considering the car was org. fuel injected

or

Step 1: remove old motor

Step 2: drop in a 360 crate motor

Maybe look at the carby/float needle and seat, if it's sticking it can either starve your motor of fuel or flood the engine... They are pretty inexpensive to replace.

thats a good idea, i was thinking the one fuel filter was clogged and after letting the motor go for a few days the other one might be clogged now
