elduave Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I have no idea if this is a repeat of last week but if the rest of the show is as good as the first 10 minutes it should be great. For the first time ever Randy Newman has made me sit up and take notice with a new original that kills, and then U2 doing One with Mary Blige turned on my misty...
BTMN Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I came in while The Foo Fighters were doing "Born On The Bayou" Rod Stweart and the vocal group were THE BEST!!! Hope everyone makes a donation somewhere or three. America is gonna have to really pull it together. This will be the toughest test of our 229 year history.
Submariner85 Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 One is one of the few U2 songs I like alot. Most of the songs were good on there. I thought the Foo Fighters did an excellent job with Born on a Bayou. My wife was liking the Shirley Ceasar/Alicia Keys.
Cary Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I watched it right up until I heard someone say "George Bush hates midgets". Then they lost me.I'm fucking DONE. I don't want to listen to these sanctimonious leftist assholes ANY MORE. Do they really think they are going to get people like me to help by CONTINUOUSLY shitting on our values and beliefs? Can't they make HELPING PEOPLE non-partisan?Fuck them. I will give, but it won't be to ANY cause that has anything to to do with ANY of these fuckheads.Sorry to dump on this post, but I'm already fed up. Did the left have to turn this human catastrophe into another "us versus them" campaign commercial?
Submariner85 Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 That was Chris Rock.I think he was trying to lighten it up a little after Kanye West made his anti-Bush remark yesterday.
Cary Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 That was Chris Rock.I think he was trying to lighten it up a little after Kanye West made his anti-Bush remark yesterday. That's fine, in fact in that light I can appreciate the sarcasm. That said, I may be over-sensitive at this point, but my main point remains that I think we need to knock off the bullshit and HELP instead of BLAME right now. There are people who are trying to make political points on the backs of corpses floating in NO. There will be plenty of time later on for level-headed analysis of what went wrong and who, if anyone is "to blame". But for now, it would be nice to care without feeling like you're having to take sides.

elduave Posted September 10, 2005 Author Posted September 10, 2005 Looks like at least one "sanctimonious leftisit asshole" agrees with you.Katrina Benefit Telethon Won't Be Censored By DAVID BAUDER AP Television WriterNEW YORK - The producer of Friday's one-hour telethon to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims said no special precautions will be taken to edit out political statements - even though rapper Kanye West is on the bill. But Joel Gallen, executive producer of "Shelter From the Storm: A Concert for the Gulf Coast," also doesn't expect any problems.West, on last week's hurricane relief concert shown on NBC, departed from a prepared script to say that "George Bush doesn't care about black people." He's one of a dozen musicians scheduled to perform Friday.Only a standard five- or seven-second delay will be employed to guard against any obscenities, Gallen said. He said he's spoken to all of the musicians and actors who will be appearing on the show about not detracting from the mission."I think people understand that politicizing this will certainly not be a smart thing to do as far as inspiring people to call in and rally around this cause," he said.Sheryl Crow, the Dixie Chicks, Alicia Keys, Randy Newman, Paul Simon, Rod Stewart and Neil Young are among the other scheduled performers. Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Ellen DeGeneres, Jack Nicholson, Chris Rock, Ray Romano and Sela Ward are also scheduled to appear. The six main broadcast networks - ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, UPN and the WB - will all air the event live at 8 p.m. Eastern. Several cable stations including Bravo, Oxygen, TBS and USA have also cleared time for the commercial-free event.Viewers will be asked to contribute to the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army. The benefit concert will also be shown in at least 95 countries.Gallen was the executive producer of "America: A Tribute to Heroes" shown shortly after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. This year's program will be similar in tone, he said, complete with no introductions of the artists."When I did this show four years ago, which was a very intense and emotional experience for me, I felt like that was a once-in-a-lifetime experience - never thinking that four years later I would be asked to put something similar together again," he said.On cable, BET is holding its own telethon Friday, although it will interrupt it for a simulcast of "Shelter From the Storm." MTV is showing a benefit concert Saturday night.Copyright 2005 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
Cary Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I watched it right up until I heard someone say "George Bush hates midgets". Then they lost me. It was a joke. Re-read my last post... Thanks for clearing that up though. Like I said, with the partisan crap that's been piled on this tragedy, it's hard to tell at times. And I'm sure SOMEWHERE in America, some dipshit went "He hates MIDGETS too?!?!?! That's it - I'm not voting for George Bush in 2008".
billhart22 Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Don't feel bad, Cary!! Really! I agree!! Hollywood sucks! I thought the most interesting part though was, Neil Young, ....he is starting to sound like he is getting a voice!! Bill
straightblues Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Cary I am with you. Amen. I didn't know the background of the comment and many others won't either.I though it was cool that the Heartbreakers (as in Tom Petty and The....) backed up the Dixie Chicks. Did Petty play and I miss it??The song that really blew me away was Kanye West. I can't beleive I am saying this because I absolutly HATE rapp but man what a sound tonight.

That was The Heartbreakers? I missed that. As far as Kanye West, I was impressed by that as well. It seemed to me that he was trying to restate his views in a less pointed way, which shows common sense.
