Replacement Speakers for 2X12 VHT cabinet

I checked out my equipment after the Chicago Hamer Jam and I think that one of the reasons the volume took a dive with the Pitbull head was that the VHT 2X12 ran out of gas...I tried plugging both the VHT pitbull into it and one of my Gallien-Krueger 2100 SEL tops into it and sound comes out...but it sounds 'far away' and the volume is quite low.

1. Does this sound like 'blown speakers'

2. If so, what are some recommended replacement speakers?

Could it be your positive and negative connections at the jack are flip-flopped? I bought a cab off of Craigslist one time that had the same symptoms and the wiring was the issue.

Yes....the best thing to do first is to troubleshoot it.

Thanks for the suggestion...although the cabinet started out at the beginning of the evening OK.
