The Hellion Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 Yes well, as you can see I'm new here so basicly I'm here because I wanted some professional opinions about Phantom GTs You see, I'm a new guitarist, but I have been thinking about improving my weaponry. What I actually need is a new axe and amplifier. Amplifier is an easy decision, Marshall TSL100 won't let me down, but guitar is a hard one. My two favourite brands are Gibson and Hamer, the old Hamers and the custom ones. Gibson Flying V is propably one of my favourite guitars if not THE favourite, but I also like Phantom guitars by Hamer, ecspesially the Phantom GT! So basicly what I now would like to hear are professional opinions about this guitar and some kind of an estimated price of Phantom GT (I know it might be hard, but...) Ok, thanks allready!
paults Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 I like old Phantoms, too. For me, the A5 and A7 Phantoms are more versatile than the GT, since they have more than just a bridge pickup. But, I can certainly see what you would like about the simplicity of the GT. A Phantom A5 recently sold on eBay for $700, so I think that would be a good ballpark for a price. They are a little hard to come by - I haven't seen one for sale for awhile. Here's a picture from when I had more than I needed.....
SirDouglas Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 the Phantom is a good quality guitar all around. Very versitle in sound as well. single coil double and triple so your not without any sound you want. The necks for the most part arent real thin and not real chunky either... good fit .. body as well ... and its light as to not wear your back out haha.. Sir Douglas Randy
DavidE Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 I had an '83 laser pearl Phantom that was great except that the neck was HUGE and I like a somewhat chunky neck.
The Hellion Posted September 25, 2005 Author Posted September 25, 2005 Yes well, of course my lust for a nice looking Phantom GT has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Glenn Tipton uses it, absolutely nothing at all But vintage guitars are allways vintage guitars and their price compared to the new ones is acceptable. Gibson's Flying V or SG, or average Strat can easily cost that 1200+ euros. But hey, thanks for answering my post It's frustrating how I have to remind myself everyday that: "hey pal! You ain't have money for that baby there, earliest in next summer or autumn!" Just can't wait to get my hands to one of the über guitar, like phantom GT! Argh! Why do I have this stupid habit of starting every post with "Yes, well..." Nice collection of Phantoms, Paults
David B Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 ALL USA Hamers are great quality. The Phantom is no exception. I used to have a 12 string Phantom A5.
silentman Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Wasn't Jim selling his a while back? or am I mistaken?Edited: found the for sale post... It was an A5.
bruce919 Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 A Phantom GT. Of all of the guitars in the world of Hamer I have only seen ONE for sale in the past 6 years. I have seen more Watsons thatn that.
The Hellion Posted September 26, 2005 Author Posted September 26, 2005 Yes, GT is quite rare because it was produced (if I'm right) only 2 years in mid 80's... A5 would be cool too, though I'd still prefer the GT.
phantomgt Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Ok ok.... I haven't been on the board in a few days. Anyway... yeah. A GT is a rare Phantom, and Phantoms themselves are kinda rare anymore. Yes, Paults is right. The A5's are more versatile than a GT, but the simplicity factor is what I like about mine. If you want a straight up metal tone thing happenin, that's the one to have. Plus they have a very cool sleek look to them that isn't obstructed by alot of b.s all over the guitar. I have one, and haven't found any others except for one on Ebay a while ago, but it was kinda crappy and someone butchered a neck p/u in it. Mine isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Although I did just recently sell my one A5. I don't have any pictures right now to post up, but I'll get one and throw it up here for you soon.
The Hellion Posted September 26, 2005 Author Posted September 26, 2005 Yay! Thanks mate, that would be cool How much do you think one of those GTs would actually cost at these days?
phantomgt Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Hmm..... i haven't priced them recently, but i'd imagine they'd max out at around $500-$700
The Hellion Posted September 26, 2005 Author Posted September 26, 2005 That'd be pretty cheap. What I've been thinking about a max price for my next guitar is about 1300€, but 500-700$... can't find any "good" new guitar with that price and Phantom GT is a good guitar. But ... how about the original humbucker, is it actually good or should it be replaced with a better one, like a new EMG-81?
The Hellion Posted October 1, 2005 Author Posted October 1, 2005 Any pictures yet, Phantomgt? don't want to hurry you, it's just that I'm intrested to see phantom gt, only seen few pictures.
