lonote049 Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 I've never actually played the drums, but I know I could. What does that make me? I've made between $4K and $10K a year playing bass in a blues band and jobbing. Am I a professional? Well, the IRS thinks I'm a businessman. Am I a musician? Maybe; audiences usually think I am. Am I a hobbyist? Probably, but the cash comes in handy sometimes. Am I having fun? Definitely, and that's most important.
shankyboy Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 Hey Lonenote. I checked out your website. Nice tunes! It's great to see a fellow Bluesman on this site. We are certainly in the minority.
lonote049 Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 Thanks, Shankyboy...and you're certainly right about the lack of bluesmen here. In a way, that kind of surprises me since Lonnie Brooks (Artist), his son Ronnie (Daytona) and his bass player, Dave "Biscuit" Miller (4 & 5-string bolt-on CruiseBasses) were all Hamer endorsers a while back. If you're so inclined, email me your address and I'll send you one of our CD's.
shankyboy Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 Naah. Doesn't surprise me a bit. I would venture to say that most Blues players are Fender players. (at least most that I know of) plus, Hamer doesn't seem to market towards Blues players. By the way, Ronnie Baker Brooks is one of my favorite modern Blues players. I do a couple of his tunes in my sets. I'll send you a message with my address. Thanks.
MCChris Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 Out of curiosity, Chris, which earns you more money? Your music or your cafe'? Well, I don't play professionally any more, but when I did, it was very much like a start-up business in that the money we made from shows (we were all original rock group, so we didn't make jack squat) and merchandise went right back into the band, plus our own personal money when needed, so we were operating at a loss. Same with the cafe; if expensive pieces of equipment would stop blowing up around here we might actually be in the black LOL!Also similar is how I had another job then (bartender) as I do now (pornographer; my wife runs the cafe full time), which is why I never called myself a "musician" then, nor do I call myself an "entrepreneur" now. I was a "guitar player in a band" then, now I'm a "business owner." People who really are musicians and entrepreneurs don't need a half-ass like me purporting to be one of them. I have too much respect for what those words mean to me, which may not jive with your definition or the Webster's definition. Again, just my personal credo. Stick around, Moose ... you'll discover many more annoying things about me LOL!
shankyboy Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 Well Chris, I checked out the website for your Cafe and it looks like a really cool little place. Just like your website says, there aren't very many "unique" places to hang out left on this planet. I hope that your business is successful and is still standing when Starbucks and Taco Bell go bankrupt.
Guitarseh Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 Also similar is how I had another job then (bartender) as I do now (pornographer; my wife runs the cafe full time), which is why I never called myself a "musician" then, nor do I call myself an "entrepreneur" now. "pornographer"? Dude, if you can't see the junk and the spunk, it ain't pornography. Just my personal credo MarkB
MCChris Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 "pornographer"? Dude, if you can't see the junk and the spunk, it ain't pornography. Just my personal credo I've seen stuff you can't even imagine. Playboy owns Spice, too, y'know. I do all the "writing" for this site as well as for this one.
