elduave Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Anyone know year/model info for something like this? Thanks!
Turdus Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Looks more mid to late 70's to me. I'd say LP... seen a lot of 70's LP Deluxes in cases with red interiors.
cmatthes Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Yep - could be a few years earlier too - the silver logo v. a gold logo is what made me think more in the range I mentioned. I also had a '78 LP with a blue-lined case. The "Chainsaw" / Protector cases (which I always thought were crap) were often pushed as an upgrade back then by dealers.Tough to tell from the pic on my tiny phone screen, but it looks more like an SG case than a LP/535 case (??). On those, the shoulders are narrower, and they're not quite as deep as a LP/535 case.
elduave Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 Logo is silver and the lid is "humped." Need to know how to represent it on eBay. Thanks!
Eric Weston Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 That's a dead ringer for the case that my '79 "the SG" is resting in......silver logo with "humped" lid.
cmatthes Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I'd say "Late '70s/Early '80s Gibson SG LP Case Les Paul", as a header.Something like that...The SG cases are a bit shallower inside than a LP case of that era, and IIRC, there's a slight angle upwards from the end/bottom of the inside of the case up to where the neck joint/case pocket resides.
Turdus Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Great mystery here... do you not have an LP, or SG shaped guitar to try it with? To me, it looks very much LP like. I also had a 70's SG, and from what I recall, the case was more scooped in the mids... much the same as they differ from an LP case today.
elduave Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 I'll try with an LP shape, no SG shapes in the building at the moment. Thanks y'all. The greater mystery is where did the guitar that belonged in it end up. This is the second lot I've been called on to appraise/purchase/consign in the last month or so. In both cases, a man passed away, and "friends" commandeered the deceased's gear. I can't fathom the MO of those types.
