Pickups for Diablo USA?

My 1992 non reverse headed Diablo has OK pickups. Just wondering about these questions?

Anybody ever put EMG's in a Diablo USA? To what effect?

Anybody ever put Rio Fat Bastard and Bastard (or other P90-buckers) in a Diablo USA? What effect? Does the slant neck position bugger up the sound?

Hey Tomassio,

Are you playing metal with the Diablo or do you want more versatility? I like EMGs for that high-tech, tight metal sound. They're very low noise and sound great clean. That said, IMO they don't respond to volume-knob changes or picking attack as well as passive pickups.

Can't speak to that, but if the stock hb doesn't sound weird, I'd wager a P90 would sound just fine. A Rio Bastard and a Seth, '59, DiMarz PAF or other medium-powered model would prolly be a nice combo, especially with a push/pull or a 5-way switch.

Try it out! At worst, you could always flip the offending pickups here...

I bought a USA Diablo off eBay w/ EMG 81's in it and found it to be quite nice for heavy rhythms and leads. I eventually took them out and replaced w/ a SD Blackout set which, to my ear, maintain a number of the characteristics of the EMGs' like higher output but have a fuller sound, better mid levels.

I have been looking at blackouts for a while as im not a EMG fan,had a set in my Jackson but they just didnt work for me.

So i might take the plunge and buy a set.

I have JB,s in at the moment which are ok(ish)

Thanks to all for the input.
