Best 8" guitar speaker?

Question

For my home made 2X8 cab- I'm looking for an upgrade to the '80's era Peavey OEM eights from one of their smaller stereo chorus amps that I currently have loaded in there. I figure with all of the low wattage retro-style amps and cabs out these days, someone must make an eight inch guitar driver that delivers the goods. The cab is a closed box and the amp is a Traynor Darkhorse 15 (or 2) watt tube head.

I'm looking for a good clean(ish) to slightly overdriven tone. I have no interest in super high gain or super clean- I'm more interested in the "just on the edge of breakup" tone. With that in mind...

What's the Hamer of 8" guitar speakers?

I don't know what's in it , but i've got an Ear Candy "bailey" ( 2x8) ?? that's shockingly capable. Much more clear capable than i would haVe imagined. (mine's wired for 16 ohm)

I have a Mesa cab with 1 12" Celestion V30 and FOUR Celestion 8" "Vintage 8s". The smaller ones are rated at 60w. I like the sound a lot. I suspect that a pair might be closer to breakup than you want. That Eminence might be a good bet, but I have not tried one.

I remember trying to get a pair of Celestion Vintage 8s back when I built the cab about 12 years ago. At that time they were only available in 16 ohm. I'll check to see if an 8 ohm version exists today.
