thunderbolt Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Hi guys,Yesterday I happened to have chance to try an early 80's Vector and unfortunately my old friend, GAS, struck me again. Thus I am wondering what the appropriate price tag should be? This Vector has some dents, dings, but the overall paint is good. It also has a sunburst maple top and a sustain block bridge. Another question off the topic: Does anyone try SD Phat Cat pus in a Vector?Any input is highly appreciated; thanks in advance!George
Guest pirateflynn Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I have similar GAS ..............I like them!Sorry no help with pricing though.
thunderbolt Posted October 26, 2005 Author Posted October 26, 2005 Glad we share the same enthuiasm! It seems Vectors are often less priced compared to Standards or Sunbursts with the same year of birth.
serial Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 They are completely different guitars than Standards. Standards were pretty much "hand made". The electronics and construction of the Vectors are very close to the Sunburst, Special, etc though. My guess is that depending on condition, these are in the $500-1000 range with certain custom finishes going for more. I recall a camo Vector going for $1200+ a few years back. There aren't many of those out there though. Saw one with body binding go for big bucks too in the past year or so.
chewie37 Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I picked up my '83 Vector somewhere around 5 years ago for $500 (including a non-hamer case). This was back when Mars music was still doing OK and had a decent used gear selection. Thought it was a fair price at the time since the finish dings were offset by the sustainblock trem and the "Schenker" black/white paint scheme.
thunderbolt Posted October 26, 2005 Author Posted October 26, 2005 Does evaluation sources such as the blue book help?

Guest pirateflynn Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 There was a pretty nice one that didn't sell on eBay with starting bid set at $799.00.Offer them less than that and see what happens. I not sure about your resale but a cool guitar for the money. Good luck.
serial Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 The last Blue Book I looked at had Hamer FBs with a value of $150 for FB1s and $350 for FB Basses.HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I wouldn't wipe with one of those.
Moose Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 One went on ebay for $700 about the time I bought mine (for less) and I think that's high end of the price right now -- though I can't understand why. My 81 vector is an even better guitar than my 81 special, which is one hell of an amazing guitar. I can't see doing better without dropping a couple grand on a Korina Vector. I was just telling a friend that it was one of the best bargains I've gotten from a price/quality standpoint.
Camstone Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Hi George,I have an '81 Vector that has been in and out of my possession since '88. Don't play it much, but when I do it's really fun. Has a brighter sound than my other Hamers, probably cause of the Dimarzios. Only negative is the head-heaviness, but that can be managed with a wide non-glossy strap and changing the tuner buttons to wood or plastic.I would guess that you could pick one up for $600 to $800 if you are not in a hurry and look around, which is a steal for a guitar made as well as a Hamer USA.
thunderbolt Posted October 28, 2005 Author Posted October 28, 2005 Hi Camstone,It's interesting to know that your Vector has a brighter sound. I always think a Vee has more body wood than say a special or a sunburst and thus gives a fuller bass. Maybe it's all because of the Dimarzio pus. Thanks!
442w30 Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 I've overdone it. As much as I love my vector, I need to get rid of a guitar. It's a refin, but looks nice. Single hum, no pickguard, sustainblock, and 1984 USA model. PM me if interested. -it's by no means mint, but it's really nice.
