crunchee Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 No affiliation. If I had the cash, I would be throwing offers at it RIGHT NOW. Billy Gibbons used the brand for the Eliminator album, I think his was the combo version R n' R 50. Has a three-tube (12AX7) preamp, solid-state power section. Speaker appears to be the original Rola Celestion G12-80. I saw a similar Legend speaker cab in not nearly as clean condition with a Rola G12-80, up on a FeeBay auction several weeks or so ago. I thought (and was hoping) that it was gonna go cheap at first, but I think it went at the end for about $350, IIRC. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-RARE-1980S-LEGEND-ROCK-N-ROLL-50-GUITAR-AMP-and-CABINET-2-Pieces-/190959778326?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c7616fa16

I mean, Legend amps are fine for what they are, but I would never hold "Eliminator" up as a paragon of "good tone." Just sayin'...
Jakeboy Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I always thought Eliminator was BFG using a Rockman......learn something new everyday on this forum.....
AdmiralB Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Afterburner is mostly Rockman, modified so that both echo and chorus are off. I think Eliminator predated the Rockman, at least most of the tracking did.The Legend is mentioned by him in interviews at the time, but he also admitted to using dozens of amps - often simultaneously - on the record, and his integrity WRT gear interviews is only slightly above Van Halen's, anyway. I wouldn't buy the amp thinking I was going to sound like "TV Dinners".
murkat Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 ^ this. The rev. is Gear whore. Bar nun. When I met him at the GCS, He brought in a Paul Stanley bat wing looking guitar while bumbling around...Ask, "can you guys fix this?" We all at the Pro shop department kinda looked at him saying to ourselves..."really?"He is in the webster dictionary "Gear Whore".
zzzdat Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I used the legend 50 watt combo for four years in the early 80's as my main gigging amp. It sounded like a brighter Marshall. The channel switching was not very usable, it went from a nice crunch to a very bright clean no matter what I did when I switched channels. All in all I made it work and it did the job and was very dependable, there are some nice tones in there. but don't expect it to be like a modern versitile channel switching amp. It's more like find the sound you want then add to it with a few pedals.Cool BeansGene
