Jack C Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 I recently got two Rio Bastards in a trade. Stuck one in the bridge spot of my Studio Custom and it sounds awesome. Better than any HB I ever tried in that guitar. Anyway, the guitar now looks like ass with a black Bastard in the bridge and a covered HB in the neck (and it IS all about The Look).Since the "P90 in Studio" experiment is going well, I figued I'd give a Phat Cat a shot. Looking for a bridge model.Stuff I can trade: Seth neck pup; the other Bastard; maybe a double cream (covered) Duncan C5; Dimarzio Tonezone from Diablo. Maybe other stuff...

That's been one of my problems with humbuckers in the Studio. Just too much upper mid brightness. The Bastard sounds really raw (in a good way). Not as compressed sounding. Overdrives really well. Of course, Rios tend to be a little dark sounding, so that may explain why it works so well in this guitar.

I can't really give a good firsthand description of the Tone Zone because I swapped it immediately. I bought a JB before I even got my Diablo, just because I knew that's what I wanted in there. The TZ did sound good the few times I played it before the swap. I think it's supposed to be somewhat fuller sounding than a JB.$38 shipped?
