Insurance For Guitar Collection

Keoghpjk

Question

Posted

I am curious if anyone has advice for insuring collections of musical instruments? In addition to my Hamers I have acquired a number of other guitars and basses over the last couple of years, and am of the mind I should start thinking about protecting my collection. I have called my long-time agent to discuss this, but am reaching out here to see if there are any potential issues with a regular policy rider through a major carrier. Would I be better off going with a specialized plan/provider, and if so, with who? Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

I know this is an old thread, but...

I just got a quote from USAA for $34k--policy is less than $100/year.

That is great news! I don't know if there's a weird shift going on in the insurance universe but my renters insurance quote was like 80 bucks or something recently, down from significantly more.

I'm curious, do you have any research on how they pay out claims? Because I've been burned with things like car insurance I'm always skeptical about loopholes and all the best stories about instrument and gear horror stories I've had related to me show Heritage as a Hero, but I'd love to hear how any other company comes through for musicians!

No, I don't, but I've been with USAA for years, and have heard a lot of good things about them.

On the insurance document, it says I need to prove I own the instruments. When filling out the application, I listed the brand, model, color, & serial number. They also allow you to upload pictures of your instruments, which I did.

Oh, and the quote I received included my firearms as well.

This is a real thing? WTF??

I have Geico in California and I don't have to do this.  I do have to report in a very short time (24 hours I think).

Yes, I was sold on the commercials...
