zorrow Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 You already know Crimson Glory and Savatage, as well as Iced Earth, all from the Sunshine State, right? Well, I stumbled upon two other vintage Floridian bands which sound quite proto-proggish to me, both featuring Tate-alike vocalists. Nothing very original there, quite raw production and all, but worth sharing anyway. Hope the old metalheads around will enjoy this: Powersurge: Oracle:
crunchee Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 When you wrote 'Vintage Floridian', I immediately thought you were talking about REALLY OLD musicians.
Steve Haynie Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I never heard of Powersurge or bought any Oracle albums. Thanks for sharing this.
zorrow Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 I never heard of Powersurge or bought any Oracle albums. Thanks for sharing this. Most of Powersurge material can be found on the site of their late bassist's brother: http://www.jeffdyer.com/jd/MY_BRO.htmlOn the other hand, Oracle released only one album, published by Metal Blade in 1993. It's just a remaster of their demo, when their name used to be Prodigy. It's title is "As Darkness Reigns". Physical copies in good condition are hard to find, but the mp3s can be easily found on the net.BTW, I find very interesting the approach to soloing of the guitarist in Oracle. It's neoclassical, but he cites classical fragments in his solos instead of trying to sound like Malmsteen. Even if the guy is sloppy and has a thin and dirty tone, I do like his intention. I can relate to it, conceptually speaking.
