Ripping/Editing a youtube video?

Like the subject line says.  I'm not up to anything sneaky, underhanded, illegal or immoral.  I just need to grab a small snippet (5-10 seconds) out of a video for my own, non-profit use.  I can edit it if I can grab it.  Actually, it's mostly just for giggles.  Anybody know how to do it or can explain it to a Luddite such as myself?

ETA, Winderz machine with Firefox as the primary browser.

Download a program called YouTube Downloader (it's free) then you can download just by going to the page of the video you want to grab. The program will already read the link from your browser and it gives you an option to download at a stupidly high resolution or you can just grab the sound (as an mp3) if that's what you want! You normally find this program at somewhere like CNet etc

To edit the downloaded movie you will need some movie editing software.  Do you already have something?

Amazingly, it is as simple as this to download a video, but I never clicks on the links that say "warn":

Download YouTube videos:
When you go to a youtube page replace the http://www. with pwn so that it reads pwnyoutube.com/  That will take you to a page that will give you some site options as to where to download either the video or just the sound without having to download anything.

Got it done.  turns out I had a downloader in one of my editors all along.  And the ones i tired to download were so full of adware/malware/etc. that my various security measures nuked them before i could even run the installers.

Ken, thanks for the tip.

Got 'er done.
