Did you have the GoPro in the waterproof housing? If so, that housing does a terrible job of picking up audio since it is trying to keep the camera airtight.

The WBS is now in College Station, TX with bcsride! Thanks for sending it mine and SteveB's way.

I plugged it in and cranked it up when I first unpacked it. I played this song:

Let me know who gets the guitar next and I will ship it out later this week.

The Houston stop on the Wyldbil Special USA tour. Steve Balderrama and I took the WBS out for a night of Tex-Mex at Last Concert Cafe and for a couple of beers at Irish Pub Kenneally's. Our good friend (and fellow guitar-hound) Tom Callins joined us to take the photos. "Tres Hombres" anyone? The guitar went home with Steve last night. We still need to decide what "goodie" we are going to drop into the box. Then off it goes to the next recipient.

The WBS has landed safe and sound in Houston. My UPS delivery usually happens between 5-7 PM. I arrived home today at 3:50 PM to learn that the delivery was made at the unusually early time of 1:40 PM. The driver left it in plain sight. Nice, huh? At least he paid attention to the "This End Up" instructions! More reports and pictures to follow soon.

I have alerted SteveB. Looking forward to it!

My guidelines: 11's for 24.75/Les Paul scale. 10's for 25.5/Strat scale. My PRS McCarty gets 10's.

My old band had a keyboard player who wanted to play guitar on a few songs. He wasn't playing through any pedals, but no matter what amp he played through his tone always sounded like a Scholz Rockman. His guitar was some low-end Ibanez RG. I suggested that too much gain muddied up the mix. He asked me to adjust the controls on the amp (one of mine) he was playing through but we just could not get that guitar to sound decent (to my ears anyway). The whole process just pissed him off because he though it sounded fine and could not understand why I couldn't simply just adjust the controls on the amp to get it to sound the way I wanted. But then again, equipment isn't always the problem. Bad tone often comes from bad technique.

http://www.guitardaterproject.org/potcodereader.aspx "This potentiometer was made by CTS Corporation (Chicago Telephone Supply) in the 51st week of 1978 This means that (given this is an original part) this is the earliest possible date your guitar (speaker) was made. "

Tips:. Sprinkle popcorn salt, a very fine grind, into the oil beforehand and it automatically salts the corn evenly.Use coconut oil.Coconut oil is highly saturated, and makes the lightest, fluffiest popcorn. It's the proper way to achieve that consistency without resorting to killer trans fats. New research indicates that coconut oil is healthy. I get mine at Sam's Club in a big jar that comes out to about $4/pint--way cheap. I worked at a drive-in movie theater for a couple of summers. We used coconut oil. We also put in a a heaping tablespoon of salt into the kettle with the coconut oil and popcorn kernels.

A little off topic, but... Boiling takes the flavor out of the hot dogs. The best way to heat a hot dog on the stove is to bring water to a boil first, drop the hot dogs in, and immediately turn off the burner. Let the hot dogs sit in the hot water for 5-10 minutes. Perfect.

I'm kind of surprised that nobody's suggested Yuengling. I sure wish we could buy it in Texas!

Wouldn't using charcoal make everything smell like burgers?

http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/49560-deodorizing-a-guitar/page__hl__cigarette Here's my reply from that previous thread: The guitar: leave the guitar out of the case for a few weeks. Clean the guitar. Naptha works great. Use polish (I like McGuir's Car Polish paste) to buff back to a shine. The case: Vacuum out the case thoroughly with a brush attachment. Spray the fuzzy interior with FebrezeĀ®. Don't soak it, but don't use too little. Leave the case open in your back yard sitting in the sun during the day. Supposedly the sun helps to break down the odor. Bring the case in at night and put 3-4 new dryer sheets in the case. Repeat this for 3-4 days.

My son's middle name is Marshall. I met Jim Marshall at a Dallas guitar show about 10-15 years ago. I told him that I had already been playing guitar for 25 years when one day I FINALLY tried a Marshall half-stack. I strummed an open E chord and thought to myself "So that's where that sound comes from!" Jim smiled at me and said "Yeah, and I bet you wasted a lot of time and money over the years looking for that sound, didn't you?"

A friend of mine went to see their reunion shows in London a couple of years ago. They sold audio CDs of the concert that you could buy at the end of the night. He shot one song with his iPhone and later dubbed the audio from the CD. Here it is on YouTube:

I had the same thing happen about five or six years ago - a 4x12 was being shipped to my house and I happened to be at home when it arrived for delivery. I was sitting on my couch and heard the "whump ... whump ... whump" coming up my driveway. The irony was I'm 99.9 percent sure the guy who shipped it to me took a big black marker and wrote " FRAGILE - HEAVY - USE HAND CART" on every side of the box. The guy packed it very well (double-boxed and very well padded), so it was just fine. No harm, no foul. That "end over end" technique must be some kind of official method with FedEx Ground for moving large boxes. A couple of years ago I had ordered my wife a jewelry cabinet - constructed of wood and mirrors. I heard the truck pull up and heard the "whump, whump" sound. I went running outside and politely asked the driver "what the hell she thought she was doing and why didn't she use her cart?" She said "They don't give me no cart." I told her to leave it in the middle of my yard and that I would take it from there. I did get her truck number and reported it to FedEx.com. Never heard anything back.
