Michael_B Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 Am I correct in understanding I could use a Blue Tooth Audio Receiver / Amplifier Board with unpowered speakers to effectively convert them into powered BT speakers? If anyone here has experience with this kind of board, I'd welcome your thoughts.
mathman Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 Yes, I think you are right. I haven't used these but I bought a small bluetooth amplifier from part's express to use with my older bookshelf speakers and gave them to my son. $25 or less gave me a small amp with bluetooth, rca and 3.5mm headphone input and output with a volume control. Works well. Parts express is where I got mine.

django49 Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 While not in that price range, there are some good reasonably priced options for bluetooth gear, powered speakers, etc at a place called Audioengine. I have used a couple of their different products and like them a lot. In fact, picked up some more a few weeks back at their (periodic) 20% off sale for Christmas gifts. One other option, a little bigger but cheap for what it is ($150!) is the TUBE amp that works with BT, as well as plug ins like a CD player. I use it here in the office for great sound with (unpowered) Audioengine speakers. See Monoprice for the details. The amp was discussed here a year or so ago.

I already ordered the device from Amazon. If that doesn't pan out, I'm going to check out Monoprice.
Michael_B Posted December 18, 2016 Author Posted December 18, 2016 The $13 BT Amp arrived, yesterday. Wired up and fired up, easily. It couldn't be easier to convert unpowered, wired speakers to powered blue tooth speakers. However, it is somewhat noisy. On the other hand, my house is electrically noisy, so I'm not sure if it's a problem in the unit.
