Just some speaker craziness.

So, i've been swapping, swapping, and swapping speakers and out of the ones, i've tried i'm found some really interesting similarities. Tone Tubby Ceramic 40/40, WGS Reaper HP, WGS Reaper, Celestion G12H30, G1265 Celestion, ET65, WGS Retro30 and WGS Green Beret.

The startling discovery was when I started swapping them around after I purchased a second Fuchs 2x12 so I could get 4 speakers going  without having to stop and swap them out one at a time. The Fuchs cabs have offset speakers and I turn then on then so all I have to do is flip the cabinet over or walk to one side or the other. I have read that the Tone Tubby RED is based on a Silver Vox Bulldog and the Green is the a H Mag Celestion type. So some how or another the 40/40 and the Reaper HP (G12H30 beafed up to 50watts) ended up in the same cabinet. So one is hemp and one is paper but damn, after flipping that cab a few times, I was hard pressed to be able to tell the difference between them. Its a toss up and I love both of those speakers.

Now the Celestion Creamback 65, Reaper HP and the G1265 compared they are all different beasts. G1265 is Tighter and brighter, and more in your face. The Reaper HP is warm, round, with a tight bottom end response. The Creamback IMHO is more M than H and compared to the G12H30 has a softer bottom end like a green back but a bigger sound than a greenback. If you like that Greenback Tone but doesn't fall completely apart when being really pushed this is a great speaker. They say its a little of both but I have to say it leans toward the M side more than the H.

Currently in Cab 1: I have the Retro30 from WGS and the Celestion G1265 in one cabinet and that is really a great rock tone. WGS Suggests using the ET65 with the Retro30 and having had both the ET65 and the G1265, I'd have to say they are correct. WGS Freaking Nailed the G1265, I have an original and the ET65 nails it. You get Tight Bottom, Forward Mids with Crisp but not harsh highs. You will cut through anything, while having a very pleasing throaty tone with some teeth, but while being warm at the same time.  Cab 1 Done

Currently in Cab 2: I have the WGS Reaper HP and a Tone Tubby 40/40 (DS). The TT unfortunately has been on its last leg and not because of poor quality it has seems one abuse the big brown truck. BUT anyone, i've always wanted and loved that one but even when I've bought other TT's I just hasn't been the same. Now that I have the Reaper HP with its full tight bottom end, nice warm highs and slightly pulled back mids, I found that i've been looking for. So I think i'm going to purchase another Reaper HP or another WGS Speaker.

I would like to try the WGS Invader so I could compare it to the Creamback 65, I have a feeling its going to be close. I'm trying to save some of you guys some money!

Thanks for the info. Great stuff. I have been thinking about checking out the WGS ET65.

Worth every penny, I was lucky enough to have spent time at the WGS Booth at the last Gear Expo in Nashville. One amp with multiple speakers that you could turn on with a touch of a button. Walked out with an ET65 that weekend, happy as a clam.

This is great info, thanks! I have two Rola G12-65s, one dead and one in my Lonestar Special that has seen its better days, but still sounds fantastic. Good to know there's a suitable replacement since the only recone kit for the G12-65 is for the Classic Lead 80.

Was the G12H30 a Heritage variant at 55Hz?

No, Dragan and I have been wanting to get a 55HZ and a Reaper 55HZ to try out but we have not done so yet. Maybe if I can sell the 65 Creamback I have and the remaining Emi Red White and Blues, I'll get that showdown underway.
