Schaller Sure Claw- anyone use 'em?

In my NGD post, I detailed how Shane put a nifty device in the HEL Willy G that allows for precise claw/spring tension adjustment, all without taking the back plate off or the need for a screw driver. The Sure Claw by Schaller is indeed a cool device as it does solve some issues relating to string changes and spring adjustments but I've noticed some idiosyncrasies in it's design as well. For instance, you can't orient springs in any configuration other than straight in line (90 degree to block) & possibly straight and angled depending on how far out the claw is extended.  I've also noted that unless the cavity is routed at the appropriate length, you can't easily go to a 2 spring set up as the claw will not retract far enough to create sufficient tension.  Lastly and perhaps most troubling (for me) is the apparent tendency for the Sure Claw to hamper the FR's capacity to flutter, a good indication of a trem's responsiveness. I've experienced this first hand and heard others have run into this but I haven't been able to directly tie it to the Sure Claw.

Anyone else ever use one?

So, the bridge doesn’t pitch forward when you bend? And it doesn’t “flutter” like your seven other FR Guitars?

i don’t see the problem here.

Seven? :lol::lol::lol:

And yes,the bridge still pitches forward. The Sure Claw doesn't address that.

I use the tremol-no ---- I've got a love hate for it (and the floyd). Similar reasons but I can do double stop bends all night long and that's what I wanted to do. Still wish I had ordered two guitars - when I got my Hamer -- the matching hardtail would have been cool.

Not all (trem) springs are equal in tension.

Those Red ones you have installed are quite beefy in strength, stiffness. (have some if they are of the same).

Maybe a set of Fender Blacks would be in order to get some wiggy fluff?

Yup, I know. I've tried the standard springs that came on this ax and I have used the Fender blacks (on your recommendation) in another guit but wasn't all that bowled over. Correct me if I'm wrong but the Fenders are just standard springs with the coating to minimize noise?

Part of my misgivings with this Sure Claw is that the claw can only be retracted so far. Where as, with the traditional claw, you can crank that sucka almost flush to the leading edge of the spring cavity. Not sure the Sure Claw has enough distance to work with 2 standard springs. We'll see...

I have an assload of said blacks. You can have them if you want.

Thanks but I've got a set of 5 I still haven't found a home for...
