DaveL Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 Looking for a cheap website for my little sports photo business, here's what I want... can link to my own url which I have renewed for a couple years... a little bio, a contact me button... maybe a gallery or slideshow where I can put some pics. nothing else... I still use smugmug, but the customizable option is getting too pricey not using the sell online model anymore, so as above just a basic, portfolio and bio... I only do a few shoots a year, and not really looking to grow (I like my day career) The concept of advertising to the general public creeps me out a little (hey here's where thousands of dollars in photo gear can be found!!) Just basically, an online business card to for those that I already do business with. Thanks, Dave
Pinch Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 Hi Dave, Your best bet is a Wordpress website. Wordpress is an open source publishing platform that makes it easy to create and maintain a website. It is the most popular platform for building websites and you do not need to be a developer or tech savvy to use it. It is so well supported that whatever functionality you are looking for is available and probably free. Feel free to message me with questions. You already have the domain and what you have described is simple enough that I can guide you through it.
DaveL Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 Great. I’m going to check that out! Thank you. Dave.
mathman Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I use dot.easy for my site. They have good prices and a decent starter price. You can install a wordpress site from their c-panel and manage. You can usually get intro prices of about $5 a month. They have been fairly reliable and decent speed even with the cheap hosting. I could probably host you on my setup. I upgraded to the faster hosting to try some things this summer. You can use your own domain name.
Pinch Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 There are many reasonable hosting options once you have a website and some will even help you create the website. Just be careful with the intro pricing.
DaveL Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 Thanks guys, I've gone ahead and signed up for wordpress, I'll dig into it tonight... may have some follow up questions.
Ting Ho Dung Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 @DaveL, I have plenty of room on my server. 99% up-time with a great backbone. Full DNS for your URL. FTP and email available. PHP, MySQL, etc. Many options for photo since that's what I used to do. I don't do web design anymore but will gladly help. Donation accepted. This is a private server I've owned / operated for a dozen years. Recently been upgraded. Full security / never been hacked.

gorch Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Although I don’t like it, wouldn’t Facebook work for you?
