acb Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 So what price would YOU ask if you were selling this earliest sunburst? Include negotiating buffer and you are closer to the asking price than you thought. I don't think the asking price is offensive or that far from a realistic selling price. To a bona-fide collector this is an easy acquisition. Class of 77 is a small alumni list. Would you consider the relative value of a clean 77 b&c burst the same as a 59 lp junior? I don't see complaints about $7500 for a thoroughly abused and restored 59juniors....

kizanski Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 If it was 100% original and in under-the-bed condition, I'd say it would be worth $4,000 - TOPS.
BadgerDave Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 I like the 59 LP Jr analogy. A good to excellent 58 - 60 Junior in Cherry (the most common finish) can be found in the $3,000 - $3,500 range pretty easily. I sold one with the original case for $3,300 last year. That sunburst (most common finish) Sunburst is worth whatever the most highly motivated buyer will pay, but you could find another for well under $4,000.

If you to do price comparisons on eBay, do NOT look at what folks are asking. Look at what they actually sell for. Some folks list things way over their value in hope of finding a sucker. Others, who have no idea what they have, start with a low price in hope that there's a demand for what they have that will drive the price up. Actual sales transactions are the only worthwhile comparison.

But I have run across some when I was looking for mine from 79 and when I was looking for a friend for those years 77,78,79.......................this IS a rare guitar and I'd love to have it and at the price you mentioned it would be worth that. I know what your saying KIZ that there is only a handful of these around that would be from that year and be B&C'd also so how do you go about comparing/price.......................I'd say ask here on the HFC for a far price as to worth. And I was speaking in general terms as far as comparing what some guitars in general sell for..................guess I was talking out of my ass regarding this one.....................I 'didn't word that very well. I'd love to have this guitar, just as is, who wouldn't.
