Nitrocellulose paint and pickup bobbins

Bobby Marshall

Question

Got a project and wondering if I will have an issue getting nitrocellulose based paint to hold on the bobbins and rings.  I was told this may not work.  Assumed they used nitro on both the original and backup Enola (below).  Is there some kid of prep of the bare plastic to improve adhesion of the paint?

Wipe em with rag lightly dampened with alcohol and a little sanding with something in the 400 grit range wouldn't hurt.

You could always use a plastic primer too and poly or acrylic paint, and then top coat with nitro clear (test compatibility on a scrap first).

A couple passes w/an amber tinted clear (StewMac, Mohawk, etc.) would get a white looking closer to the body color pictured.

That may end up to be the answer.  Thanks for responding.  Still holding out I can find a way to get nitro to work just like original.
