Bennyboy-UK Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Hi team, currently packing my tle for Bruce - will post pics in a bit... Any tips on doing this, I've taken one of the trem springs out to reduce tension on the neck and using plenty of newspaper rolled up under the neck for support- what's best around the headstock? Tips greatfully recieved! Cheers, Ben OK here we go - Tis a most perplexing and puzzling mystery...... Cheers, Ben ...Even if its just to give me some stick about that third photo!
veatch Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I only ship 2 or three guitars a year, so i'm hardly a pro. That being said, my preference with a Floyd is to remove it altogether and ship in a separate box that goes in the main big box. Barring that, i've put foam behind the trem and slackened the strings as much as reasonable. Supporting the guitar body but not the headstock as you've shown is the right idea. It's best to leave the headstock free so if there is a shock to the case, it doesn't hit something. Here's a couple pics of a Floyd'd guitar i sold a while back: Bubblewrap the snot out of the case and double box if possible. If you use enough bubblewrap and a good new box, you should be fine with single-boxing. Oh, and get insurance. Hope that helps.
Mindseyes Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 First i make shure the bastard dont move around in the case! Then in the shiping box, Try to make shure it dont move around in it! This is what 5 cubic feet of gohst poop looks like

Lockbody Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Gotta keep that bad boy from moving forward in the case Then ya gotta put the Styrofoam, bubble wrap, and pillow pack love on it. I don't know about across the pond, but in the US if your package is damaged and they find out you used newspaper, they'll use that as a reason to try and deny your claim, as newspaper has no crush resistance.
hamertek98 Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I want both guitars. The silver one kills me. Is that Matt's?Good pics on how to ship. I've read that the manufacturers ships at 440/pitch. Any truth to that? I have to admit that I have slackened bass strings in the past. Is this a myth? Does it help in the travel of a wayward guitar? Hopefully the dealers here will tell us.
Lockbody Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I want both guitars. The silver one kills me. Is that Matt's? Yep, it was. Now it's Geoff's/zenmindbeginner (I just sold it to repurchase something I sold a while back.).
