sonic1974 Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Hey,First, let me say that I'll have to post pics later on. But anyways, I got my '78 Sunburst back from the shop. I had bought a Sunburst body from a HFC way back at the beginning of summer. It took me quite a while to track down a sustain block bridge. I was going to do the work myself, but ended up taking it to my shop to get them to install some WCR darkburst pups that I got off another HFCer.So the guitar is AMAZING!!!!!!!! Wow, I love it! I'm not sure if it's the pups, or the sustain block, but it feels/sounds a bit different from the Studio Custom I have. The pups are more responsive to alterations in volume/'tone. It's quite versatile. Seems to have good "string to string definition" to use a term I've heard before. Just thought I'd share the good news with the only people who would know what the heck I'm talking about. I'll post the before and after later on, right now I'm too excited to play it than to stop to take pics! ha ha
jisham Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 WCR pickups totally rule. Look forward to the pics.
sonic1974 Posted January 8, 2010 Author Posted January 8, 2010 WCR pickups totally rule. Look forward to the pics. Yeah, man the pickups are awesome. They are so responsive! It allows me to set up my amp for more distortion than I need, then roll back the volume. Then I can roll up the volume for leads or for a rauchier rythm sound. Every other pup I've had sounds kinda bleah when the volume is at half. I will post some pictures on the weekend. Sunbursts rule!!!!!!
sonic1974 Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 Here's a link to my photobucket account with some pics. I loooooooooove this guitar! http://s649.photobucket.com/albums/uu217/s...078%20Sunburst/ Serial number is 80137. I was told it's a 1978. Peter Fung sold me the body, and I found the bridge from a store in the states. Pups are WCR. Nice and light and a great tone.
marcnorth Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Cool looking guitar, congrats. Peter is a good guy to deal with too.

sonic1974 Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 Very Nice, What year is the Ampeg? Not sure of the exact year, it's a Reverberocket re-issue. I believe it's a 1997. I bought it off a guy on the gear page. He replaced the speaker with a Jensen, and converted the tubes to a KT-66. I might change out the speaker. I believe the Jensen is rated at 50 watts, and the amp is 50 watts. It's breaking up a little too much on the clean, but the distortion channel sounds great. I think I may swap the speaker for a 75 watt Celestion that I have. Should help a bit with the headroom. I'm using the distortion from the amp for my main sound, and for leads, I have a Fairfield Barbershop overdrive that I really like the sound of. It doesn't really change the tone, just adds more grit and sustain. I have a single channel Marshall, but I've discovered I'm more of a channel switcher guy. I sing when I play , so I can't use the volume knob as much as some other guys, it's too hard to do everything at once. So I'm selling off the Marshall.

sonic1974 Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Hey Nice Burst man Has the top been refinished?? Whats neck profile like on this beast?? No, the top is original. It looks really nice! I would say the neck is a nice chunky size. It's a little bigger than the 90's Studio Custom I have. I would call it a little bit bigger than medium. If feels really great in my hands, very comfy. A beauty ! And there is something magical with those '78's. Agreed! I've seen some of yours Belgian, beauty guitars. Now I'm in the '78 club.
