  1. The Jackson Guitars Facebook group is weird. Most of those guys over there would rather own 10 low end, Chinese Jacksons than one really good MIJ or USA. Then they freak out when they find out they have a twisted neck or something like that. Then again, they just slap EMGs in everything as soon as they buy it, so I'm not sure sonically it would make any difference anyway.
  2. I'm now in the 24 fret club. And anyone who sincerely believes all the money is lower has never played in a band where you have to do arpeggiated harmonies with a horn line and sometimes end up actually having to get up there to get things to work properly.
  3. I listened to Ride the Lightening and Kill Em All in the gym today and thought, the downfall of Metallica didn't start with Cliff getting killed. It started when they discovered Mesas. Yes, heretical, I know. Maybe I'm just too much of an old school thrash head, but I like how raw the boosted Marshalls sound on those first two vs. the scooped Mesa think that started on MOP.
  4. Is one of them Alex Van Halen? 😂
  5. I think getting those odd times to work unnoticeably is largely about the drummer. My first band wrote a lot in 7 and 5 and even had a few polyrhythms here and there. Folks never noticed because our drummer had such fluid cymbal and snare work that his patterns never seemed to be "interrupted" by the 1 coming somewhere you didn't expect. A lot of folks who'd watch us said they never noticed this or that song was in 7/8 or 5/4 until they tried to bob their head to it. He left for a few months, and replacing him was hell. We even had the "best" drummer in our local rock circle in Murfreesboro come audition, and we went from sounding like a balls out rock band to Rush. Dude never could play an odd time without making it feel odd. Thankfully, our original drummer moved back to Nashville and stayed until the band finally fell apart a couple of years later. Love or hate this song, you have to admit that's a pretty smooth 7/8.
  6. I love seeing some of bigger clowns on Reverb get stuck with something they valued incorrectly. Guy who bought my Miller Time guitar uses one account to buy guitars and another account to sell, I guess so people won't know he's a flipper trying to low ball people. I sold the guitar for $1,000 less than he's asking. Fine with me. I got most of my money back out of it and had fun playing it for some shows for a few months. Thing was I hated the upper fret access and was starting to pay it less and less, so I decided to move it on. I guess he priced based on other Miller Time's (that have been sitting on Reverb forever). Sucks it moved it out of reach for actual Hamer fans, but I hope he enjoys sitting on it forever at that price. Already been three months.
  7. Well, there's the south, and then there's Acadiana. 😄
  8. I shouldn't get short, but when I realize what I thought was going to be gear chat is really just going to be, "Let me tell you about my PRS," I, well, get short. Oh well, at least it's just PRS these days. The worst was when it was "Let me tell you about my PRS and my Triple Rec" back around 2002.
  9. Got the "Nice PRS" from somebody last night about my Shishkov. Tried to give the elevator pitch on those two brands, but starting getting stuff like "Is it mahogany? My PRS is mahogany." Finally I was just like, "Yeah, I don't really care about PRS'."
  10. Fuck other forums. I've tried respectfully asking an automotive question on another forum and just been ignored. Never seen that happen here, not matter how N00bish the question.
  11. Right up until they show you who it usually gets you laid by these days.
  12. Saw Corrosion of Conformity in Memphis last nigh. Met Pepper and Mike because they were just hanging out and talking to folks before and after the show. Even though it was a small venue, they seemed to be having a great time. I love it when bands are actually as cool as you hope they're going to be. Editing to Add that it's also cool you don't have to pay for a VIP ticket just to say thanks for the music and get a shirt signed.
  13. I had this guitar back in the summer or fall of 2015. I feel like I've lived through three different lives since then, but this guitar is still on the same journey it was when I had it. It gets very meta when I think about it too much. -Checked, and it was winter 2015. In some ways if flew, and in some ways, it didn't.
  14. I have a growing Charvel addiction.
  15. My Charvel CS is working its way up to #1 status.
  16. You should watch the vid. The 7-string is definitely the most useful part, haha.
  17. Thanks! We're still not as rehearsed as I would like, but I think the band has a lot of potential.
  18. Here's a really out-there version of Cheap Sunglasses. I've been mixing and throwing stuff under a crappy phone vid all day. I think this is pretty interesting.
  19. The purge has begun, starting with my much loved EVH guitar that I got to enjoy all of two months. In truth, it was an impulse buy, and buying the ES-335 kind of meant something had to go. I really almost sold the custom shop Charvel and kept it, if that tells you anything about the build quality of the EVH Mexico stuff. There's more to it than just that of course, but it played well enough to give my pause. So off it went. It did cross my mind that I was selling the guitar that I raved about out of the box to keep the one with the bullshit nut that has given me nothing but tuning problems. The Gibson is certainly worth more in the grander scheme of things, but if you had to play a show with one of them straight from the showroom, the EVH was the far better guitar.
  20. I can feel a massive gear purging coming, which makes me sad as I only have stuff I really like left. The Mark III was the first... Hell, the Standard was really the first. I see guitars pop up that would actually be more useful for what I do these days than some of the things I have a lot of money tied up. Plus they cost 1/3 to 1/2 as much. I also need a good combo for a couple of reasons. Due to that, I can see some stuff I've always wanted having to go out the door soon. And honestly, it's a weird mixture of being sick to see it go and relieved to go back from a museum back to stuff that is just useful.
  21. Jesus, the Mesa Mark III is bring out the morons on Reverb. "Is it loud since it's only 70 watts?"
  22. Yet another show where I bring three guitars and still end up playing the Shishkov for 75% of four hours of music.
