I do have a couple of 'em hanging around here. Why do old Marshall cabs just look about like something you would expect to look after getting shoved in trunks and playing shows for years but old Mesa cabs look like something out of a Hellraiser film? What are people doing with these things? I'm probably about to head to Nashville to by a 1960av cab. Probably going to yank two of the V30s and throw two neo-Creambacks in to mix. So I guess I'm kinda going the opposite direction. -

I may be a 41-year-old type 2 diabetic with a stent, but damn it, I can still run a mile and deadlift 315 lb. for reps. And I am tired of living under the jack booted tyranny of pansy ass local sound engineers. I'M GOING BACK TO A 4X12! Those passive aggressive jackholes assume you can't orient the thing to not kill people the moment they see walk in. Well, I can. And I need more elevation to properly accommodate my drink when I play. And I don't need your monitor mix when I have four speakers behind me and an EQ set to do nothing but give me +10dB for my solos. DAMN RIGHT I'M RUNNING IT IN MY LOOP. I never quit using one because I got too old to carry it. I quit using them because I got punk'd out by whiny ass sound engineers and band members who bitch about volume and then always end up drowning me out in the mix. This will no longer stand. The 4x12 is coming back... and pray it's not snakeskin. -

You certainly can imagine enough right angles to check it. -

I'm not a Norlin-era hater, but good god, their corner cutting back then did yield some hilariously absurd specimens. A "book matched" 7-piece top not doubt. -

Sent my Budda to it’s creator. Kind of excited to see how it comes back from Jeff. -

I like Clutch a lot, and I think Neil Fallon is pretty fantastic. This video he did with some fans made me smile. -

I work for the gub'ment. I don't make that "in the hole" kinda scratch! Those are high class problems for more respectable citizens, haha. -

This year's tax refund was really fun. Not only was there the ritual of the paying off of the PayPal account before things started having interest, there was also a new incantation where I also got to spend some of it on medical bills. Some day, I may actually get to hold on to one of these for more than 20 seconds. -

The Best of the HFC – Vol 4 is LIVE!
LucSulla replied to kizanski's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
My drums were done using samples in Logic (SoCal producer kit) via Roland V-Drums as triggers. I played it, fixed what I needed to, and from there basically treated like you would any drums. The song is about a girl I fancied for years before finally cutting her off, getting older, and how I used to write songs about these things but not just yell them into the void on social media. -

Things I learned today: 1. While not as big a pain in the ass as I expected, the old-school truss rod adjustment at the heel is a pain in the ass. 2. The truss rod on a custom shop Charvel is very responsive - a little goes a looong way, more so than any other guitar I own. 3. I cracking the neck pocket lacquer was exactly as fucking easy as I hoped it wouldn't be. Not that I have plans to sell this guitar really ever, but still, I hate I did this. I was trying to do the trick where you loosen the screws toward the bridge almost all the way and the ones toward the headstock about 1/2. For one, you have to remove that first pair all the way. Two, as careful I was, it sure as shit didn't take much despite trying to make sure the pressure I was putting on the neck was not side-to-side. -

I was talking about how great Powerage was to a chick I'd kinda been low key having a thing with, and she said "AC/DC is crap." We're done. -

I just bought an EBMM Silhouette Special of the 'Verb for what I think was a reasonable amount of scratch. I've never owned an EBMM. Where would one of y'all place the over/under for when I'll probably sell it? Haha. I've gotten better. Probably 75% of my stuff I've had for at least two years now, but that 9th and 10th guitar slot still seems to rotate pretty quickly. -

Nah, just dropped it in. I was worried about needed to drill and/or fill to make them work. Also, Gotohs seem a helluva deal compared to an OFR. -

Thanks, man! It's definitely one that got played. I saw it in a shop in 1999 and wanted it but couldn't afford it. When I picked it up, the first thing I noticed whas how much paint was worn off on the back of the neck between the 3rd and 9th frets. I was 19 at the time, and it was the first time I'd ever really felt a "broken in" neck like that. Around the same time, my Les Paul Studio got stolen, and the home insurance gave me just enough to buy this guitar. I think they'd had trouble selling it because the nut was a mess. I got that fixed and have just played the shit out of ever since. It's not awfully heavy for that era, but it's a fucking tank buildwise. It's a Nashville Norlin, which are supposedly shit, but I don't know about that. Seems to me that if they ever built one correctly, they are pretty much impervious to destruction. I've had a strap lock break and watched it pogo off the ground, headstock first, and nothing. I've done everything from tuning it down to D Standard to running 11s on it in standard, and the neck just doesn't care. It never moves. To be honest, I don't know if the truss rod even works because I've never had to adjust it in 20+ years. I guess if they got those three-piece, maple necks right that they really would last forever. It's definitely one of those that a novice wouldn't pay $2k for due to the period, the wear, and pretty much nothing on it being stock. But anyone that knows guitars would immediately know why I love the damn thing and why to me it's priceless. I can't believe my stupid ass wound up with it, as I knew absolutely nothing about eras of Les Pauls, what to look for, or any of that. I just loved it the moment I picked it up back in July of 99, and fate just kinda worked it out. -

I decided to look up tops on 78 Les Pauls to see if it was common to have such a flawed piece of maple as one of the three pieces on the top. Mine has a black patch that's like a birthmark. I couldn't find anything, and decided to polish it a little when it struck me - it isn't a faw in the top. It's 21 years of resting my palm there and having sweat soaking through the ever-thinning layer of lacquer and into the wood grain underneath. I don't know why that never crossed my mind, but it's really obvious when the sun hits it on the wall where it is hanging. You can see where the lacquer is worn through around the pickup toggle, knobs, and where my hand goes. That's a whole lot of good memories. Sometimes I miss when that was really the only guitar I had. Weird how an inanimate object becomes such a close friend. -

Things really did go to shit after Lemmy, Bowie, and Prince died.
