  1. I paid close to $30 for a japanese import vinyl of Yngwie's Rising Force. It was the early 80s, I heard a cut on the local college station, and it blew my mind. I immediately called the radio station, had them spell the name while I wrote it down. Had to call around to find a record store that had a copy and the import was the only one I could find. (For you younger guys, $30 was real money back in the 80s.)
  2. Being the self-centered individual I am, my issue with relicing is this. Your relic'd Les Paul 2006 gold-top somehow reduces the intrinsic mojo and resale value of my 1970s goldtop LP that I lugged to 100+ gigs in the 70s and 80s. There's probably no basis in reality but in my wacky self-absorbed world, your relic'd piece has lessened the desirability of my piece, and others like it.
  3. That's good to hear. I will hoist a cold one tonight in celebration.
  4. FYI, I'm pretty sure Larry Carlton did not play on Kid Charlemagne. The guy who did was profiled in Guitar Player magazine sometime in the last 10 or so issues, but can't remember his name offhand. IIRC, this came up in another thread here as well. I have been known to mix up my Dan guitarists ( ), but I think L.C. actually DID play that solo. My bad. I was partly correct in that Guitar Player magazine recently (July 07) did a profile on Elliott Randall who played guitar on Reelin' in the Years. Not sure how I got from point A to point B on that one. If beer improved our ability to remember things, I guess we'd all be a lot smarter.

  6. Remember the classic used-car dealer cliche "...was only driven by a little old lady to and from church every Sunday" ? I can't help but think of that whenever I read a description that describes a guitar as being used primarily for a praise band or similar in church. Mind you, I don't make any assumptions good or bad about the person or the guitar because of the description but I sometimes wonder if a small percentage of those folks might be trying to elicit more confidence in their potential buyers by including that in the description.
  7. +1. If the back can't be the same finish as the top, why not just leave it natural ? I have never understood the popularity of black guitars. Fingerprints and such always seem to stand out, far more than other colors. To each his own, I guess. BTW, if this guitar isn't everything you hope it will be, you can rest assured there'll be more than a couple $350 offers waiting in the wings here.
  8. 20+ year subscriber to GP. Some good issues here, some so-so issues there, but it ain't a huge $ investment so I keep getting it. Z, I disagree on the guitarplayertv.com thing. Can't speak to the online equipment reviews but having the lesson content available on video is a big plus for me and I have gotten a lot of mileage out of their stuff recently. They tend to lag behind by a couple issues though. Just my .02.
  9. This is not the first time I've seen a first post from a new guy that goes basically, 'hey I have a Hamer and there's this other really cool website I hang out on, you should check it out'. I guess that's the way the internet works and all, but there's just something about this that rubs me the wrong way. The implication is, 'I joined your community hoping to recruit you for another'. Of course I could be reading way too much into this...
  10. I say, play it as is. No need for restoration. Well, maybe a fresh coat of paint for the fretboard but that's it.
