Dimarzio Recommendations

Question

Am looking to install a Dimarzzzzio in the bridge of a guitar and am kinda ignorant on all but the Hamer ones. Help!

Been looking at videos of ones for sale, but that kind of limits my palette. And get google eyed when I look at all the choices.  Why a Dimarzio?  For one, I feel there's an entire world of pups have not experienced.  And number 2, have already decoded the  wiring colors, have my layout already diagrammed out.  Using all 4 wires.  Was going to use a Gravelin Charlotte on hand, but decided to put it in another guitar.

Guitar is a Hamer Slammer Import; the decent first gen Korean builds.  HSS with coil split mini toggle. Strat style bridge.   Physically a very solid build, including shielding paint in the control cavity.   Electronics and jack a different story.   My $200 splurge expecting to make it a project.  Replacing all but the bridge and tuner hardware.

Am using a 3 way on-on-on minitoggle to select full bridge, coil split and parallel coils, so that's a factor.  Usually do straight bridge most of the time, so def not The factor.  The single coiks are from a SSS Tonerider set.  Vintagey but might put the bridge in middle, and middle in neck.  So, not hot but not vintage.

Guess you could say am looking to build a medium gain superstrat.  Still want workable string definition in mid amp crunch settings.

Thanks!

I think the paf pro is fantastic, every guitar I have put it in, neck or Bridge I've been incredibly happy with it, it splits very well

Splits well?  That's great to hear.  There are very few vids of split coils.  Heard a comparison between it and their super distortion, and was definitely  brighter.  Seems like it could cut thru pretty well without being spikey.  Thanks!

I don't find it spiky at all, it just sounds amazing.. super easy to try, all you do is ground the 2 wires that join the 2 coils.. I can't remember the wiring code off hand

I always make my tone pots no load and this pickup to me sounds exceptional with the tone pot out of the circuit, but if you want it back in just the slightest turn

I have one of their modern super distortions and I did not like it much at all, it's currently sitting on a Shelf in limbo if you want that super Distortion sound what I ended up doing was getting a maxon/ibanez V2, which is their version of a super Distortion but with analicomagnet instead of ceramic, sounds awesome

The old one with the date code on the bottom, not the newer one that says V2 on the top

Thanks!  I'm going to both split it and parallel both coils (vs default serial).  Do you know if the bobbins have different winding turns?  Guess I could just measure the resistance and find out.  Never had a HB with hex screws on both sides so a little confused as to which way to orient the pup.

Joe Satriani had it as the pickup in his signature guitar for years, until they made the PAF JOE to go with it in the neck, and later the MO JOE. The FRED was also one that he used for a long time.
