specialk Posted yesterday at 12:22 AM Posted yesterday at 12:22 AM Truth there. RAM and storage is nuts now. I'm just hoping the AI bubble pops soon. 1 Quote
mathman Posted yesterday at 11:17 AM Posted yesterday at 11:17 AM Yep, Â I have a first gen Apple M1 Studio computer. Â I had always planned to upgrade when the M5 version came out. Was expected this summer. In February people started buying them with 512 gb of Ram to run llms. Â Then the model with 512 was no longer available. Â I do a lot of stuff with video and using AI to upscale and clean up old super 8 films. I also use a lot of other special effects video plugins that need a lot of power. Â And use logic and other music programs. Â So, when the orders got where there were shipping 4 or 5 months away I ordered what I wanted. Â M3 Ultra with 256gb ram. Â I was hoping that the M5 ultra would come out before it shipped and the order would get upgraded to the M5 version. Â Still do but if it doesn't then I can either keep it or return it in the 14 day return window. I want one really powerful computer to use before I get too old to do the things I like doing now. The crazy thing is the used market for these computers, especially with the 512gb ram is ridiculous. Â Well over twice the price when purchased new. 2 Quote
Dave Scepter Posted yesterday at 01:51 PM Posted yesterday at 01:51 PM (edited) I don't mind the tool itself, I just hate the major impact these massive data centers are having on our infrastructure... massive usage of water, electricity, producing heat, land, etc... taxing resources, thus raising our utility bills 🤬 "with very little employment after the initial building construction" Edited 20 hours ago by Dave Scepter 3 1 2 Quote
