hamerhead Posted August 12 Posted August 12 That would have been a great show! A buddy wanted to see Bonamassa here but by the time we figured all the costs it would have been close to $700 (2 decent tickets, parking, beers, taking the wives to dinner for making them go, etc etc etc). I can get 2 Hamers for that. 1 6 Quote
cmatthes Posted August 12 Posted August 12 My son caught the Wolf Trap show last week here outside of DC. He said that Warren/Mule absolutely blew Joe B's doors off. 3 Quote

JB's keyboard player was very good, mind you, and he got a lot of solos, but at the end of the day it's JB's show. Whereas Mule sounds like more of a cohesive band. Here's each performers' set list from that night (sadly, Ron Holloway's solo was off by half a step, he's in pretty bad shape physically): Mule: Hammer and Nails (Staple Singers cover) Rocking Horse Wake Up Dead Banks of the Deep End Game Face > Mountain Jam > Game Face I Asked for Water (She Gave Me Gasoline) (Howlin' Wolf cover, with Whip It tease) Painted Silver Light (with Josh Smith on guitar) Revolution Come, Revolution Go Key to the Highway (Charles Segar cover, with Joe Bonamassa on guitar) Soulshine (The Allman Brothers Band cover, with Ron Holloway on sax) Bonamassa: Breakthrough Trigger Finger Twenty‐Four Hour Blues (Bobby “Blue” Bland cover) Mainline Florida (Eric Clapton cover) I Fall Apart (Rory Gallagher cover) Drive by the Exit Sign If Heartaches Were Nickels (with Warren Haynes) Last Kiss Well, Well (Delaney & Bonnie cover) Stratus (Billy Cobham cover, with Warren Haynes) A Million Miles Away (Rory Gallagher cover) 4 Quote
bubs_42 Posted August 15 Posted August 15 I really wanted to catch that show. I love Joe, I’ve seen him live most of the times he has come to Peoria, but I have to be honest I don’t listen to much of his Music. I do love listening to Gov’t Mule and Warren Haynes music and it is always in rotation. I did feel that when JB added Josh to the band he did loosen up a bit. It could just be age, it could just be the band. Also, WHERE DOES WARREN FIND THESE BASS PLAYERS ! They all have been killer and the new guy is insane. Quote

Something I found curious about Warren Haynes's rig was that he didn't use his Soldano. Instead he used a white Marshall. It sounded a lot like his Soldano though. Quote

Ucode Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Caught the show in NH, such a great venue. The Mule had a "kick ass" set. Some of my favorite classic Mule tunes. Looking forward to the NYE show in Boston. Joe was also great but personally I was there to see GM. They each joined one another for during their sets which is always cool. That show happened to follow on Jerry Garcia's birthday. Warren paid tribute to Jerry by Warren bringing out his Doug Irwin Eagle and played St.Stephen tease, Patchwork Quilt, Dark Star and Fire On The Mountain. What a great show it was. My first GM show was in 2006 during their High and Mighty tour, I was hooked. At that time Andy Hess was on bass and both Matt Abts and Andy Hess where absolutely locked in. To see what I am referring to as "locked in" check out GM A Tale Of 2 Cities live performances from the Orpheum Theatre Boston and Riviera Theatre Chicago. It's IMO some of GM's grooviest work captured on DVD. Andy Hess parted ways a few years after I think around 2008 when Jorgen Carlsson joined the band. Again IMO I think Andy and Matt had something special and the 2 of them together put down so amazing jams. DIdn't hurt having Danny Lewis on keys and Warren as the front man either. 2 Quote
