hamerhead Posted Tuesday at 01:21 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:21 PM Since his first release "What Just Happened" in 2013, I've been amazed at what Mike Dawes does: He is playing in town tonight at a place that holds about 130 people. Advanced tickets were $24. Even more astounding, there are still tickets available! My wife and I are going with an old high school guitar buddy and his wife. They have never heard of him. That is really sad because Mike Dawes - and the talent he possesses - should be a household name. At the very least among musicians. For him to not sell out a small club boggles the mind (although my inner hermit is OK with the smaller crowd). Hell, when you order off his website ( https://www.mikedawes.com/ ), his Dad does the actual packaging and shipping! So my mission now is to make anyone who doesn't know who Mike Dawes is aware of his awesomeness. He should be selling out very large venues everywhere he goes. This is the first show I've been truly excited about seeing in a very long time. And if he's anywhere in your neck of the woods you need to go see Mike Dawes. He should definitely be on any guitarist's 'must see' list. Mike Dawes! 4 2 Quote

hamerhead Posted yesterday at 04:08 AM Author Posted yesterday at 04:08 AM Just got back. 5th row. It was like having him in your living room. Absolutely jaw-dropping. Look for all my stuff in the For Sale section. 3 Quote
hamerhead Posted yesterday at 04:19 PM Author Posted yesterday at 04:19 PM Same guitar all night, multiple tunings, a bank of pedals, super engaging. He used a different tuning on nearly every song but was so quick about it - while talking to the crowd - that it didn't affect the flow at all. Superb playing - if I were to be hypercritical there was maybe one slightly muted note all night, but otherwise spot on. I luckily had an unobstructed view of the 4-foot-high stage from the flat floor (shitty folding chairs) and the room sounded great. In fact, the room (which did actually sell out) was about the perfect size for the type of stuff he does - too much bigger and the fine details might get lost. And there was a shitload of fine details. I caught myself more than once with my mouth wide open at what just happened (see what I did there?). A very cool - and inspiring - show.
