Stike Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I'm looking to get a nice clean boost pedal and these two seem to get the most praise. I can get the Keeley Katana at cost, is the RC be worth the extra cash?
BCR Greg Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I have some for sale in my store, in the counter by the cash register.
Guest Mike Lee Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 The comp-cut setting on my Fulldrive II is the best clean boost I've used. And you get two overdrive modes and a boost mode too if you want them.I've tried Rangemaster clones and transparent boosts and I like the Fulldrive II best. I haven't tried the Xotic pedals and have been curious about them though.Edited to add: The Bad Bob Booster Jaye metioned is based on the same circuit that Mike Fuller copied for the original Fulltone Fat Boost.Do you want just a volume boost, or to buffer your signal to make it louder and cleaner, or to pummel you amp into overdrive?
BCR Greg Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Okay, Stike, now that I busted yer balls. The Keeley is really nice. The RC is friggin' fantastic. STUPID clean boost, but the ability to gain it up is there. No POP when you turn it on. I have guys that use it in the studio as a line booster, and NO NOISE.

No pop is good and Lord know's I'm all about some stupid, sounds like it might just be the louder pedal I'm lookin fer. I might hafta ring the store here before too long.
Scottcrud Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Stike, you should also at least take a look at the Carl Martin Hyrda-boost. It sounds great and is true bypass. Around $80 bucks new...no pop, I use mine in my fx loop for a solo boost. I love it.
wgarces Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I agree on the RC Boost, it's an excellent tool to have. Lots of versatility in that little box and very well made. Don't know much about the Keeley because I've never had one but I've read a lot of cool things about it. For the money, you can't go wrong with the RGW Bad Bob or Catalinbread Super Chili Picoso either. What's cool about these is that they only have a single vol. knob so there's no tone controls to dial in and they're both very transparent and quiet. If you want to spend a couple more bucks check out a Paul Cochrane Tim pedal. It can be used as an overdrive or as a clean boost if you'd like. It's sort of an RC boost on steroids! It almost becomes a part of your amp, sort of an extension of the amp. Another pedal with a lot of options to work with. These are the ones I use through my old Marshalls to give me a little added boost for leads. They're all different flavors.
black magic Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Rob, what does the RC Boost do for a high gain amp bro? This has my attention!! Jack.
Guest galejt Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 How much boost are you looking for? "Controls from left to right are; Volume , Blend and Sustain, inside there is a “color” control. The Volume control is used to set the overall level of the Tone Press, The two o clock position should be about the same as the bypass with most standard pickups. Turning the blend control all the way counter clockwise will make the Tone Press a “class A” clean boost pedal with about 8 db of boost, as you turn the Blend control to a neutral position (about 12 o clock) the output that is available rises to about 15 db. Turning the Blend control all the way clockwise gives you a classic guitar compressor with a class A FET output. The Sustain control is much like what you would expect from vintage guitar compressors. The color control is set “full on” when the Tone Press ships, lower settings will yield a round vintage quality. Proper phase is maintained in all positions and all functions."
BCR Greg Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Tone controls are teh suck. Seperate Bass and Treble controls rule the world. Their words... The best characteristic of this booster is to have no character at all. It's active Treble, Bass ,Gain and Volume controls allow for limitless tone shaping . The RC Booster offers a super transparent 20db+ clean boost and a +- 15db 2 band active EQ without ever compromising the integrity of the original TONE. It provides a solution to sound degradation, caused by long instrument cables and/or long effect chains between guitar and amp, by strengthening the original signal. True bypass for eliminating any signal interference when switched off. Can be used with AC adaptor (optional) or 9V Battery. I rest my case. We do no hassle returns, and have not taken ONE back.
