geoff_hartwell Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 For those of you who are interested, the great pickup maker Joe Barden has returned to business. He went down in flames as a result of mismanagement (admittedly on his own part) but now has a partner handling the business aspects, and he's handling R&D and production.I bought a set of Danny Gatton models from him and put them in a 69 reissue Tele and was very favorably impressed. That thing screams. (Used recently on the solo for 'Star'. Listen at myspace.com/geoffhartwell) After getting in touch with him I ordered two HB Two/tones which are humbuckers that are splittable to the joe barden strat deluxe pickups, which if you've heard are awesome (listen to King's X Dogman- Ty's signature model by Zion had 3 Barden Strat Deluxes). At that time, Joe was so broke he was eating frozen pizzas and couldn't even get a bank account so he asked me to send a money order, which I did. That was two years ago.I finally got in touch with him this week. He remembered me (even how to spell my name!) and in a long conversation he apologized profusely about what had happened and is honoring our transaction, and sending me some extra stuff as well. I think Joe Barden is an awesome guy who was not cut out for running a business, and learned the hard way, but he has designed and made incredible products. Check him out at joebarden.com
Bigred Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 Excellent news.....great pickups from a great guy......glad he's back up and running....
HAMERMAN Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Geoff, The HB Two/tones from two years ago never arrived? It's never pleasant to hear about a respected name in the industry being down but I am not sure I would have had the same patience. Kudos to you for giving him props.Let us know what you think of the pickups once they arrive, that sounds like a nice setup. At least one person here (HHB?) mentioned that a similar setep was nearly ideal for him though I don't think they were Barden's in his case.
Nuclear Wessel Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 I read about that on HC last week. Bardens are real nice pickups. Pickup snobs now have another choice!
peedenmark7 Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 wow, I better buy the pre-partner gattset that my buddy cant stand in his tele...!!
BLuesBuster Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Pickup snobs now have another choice! Great pickups no doubt, but there's already so much choice on the market.
